To answer the OP, I have to go with Gwynn. I really wonder what kind of numbers he could have put up, if he didn't eat the ass out of Hometown Buffet in the mid to later parts of his career.

Oh, and Bonds can choke on a bags of dicks. Fuck that arrogant cheating pile of mule shit.

WOBA seems very contrived. Give me total bases, it weighs extra bases over OBP, which is the attempt WOBA makes.
How can the career leader in both total bases and RBIs not be top 30 ?
Aaron has 13% more total bases and 4% more RBIs than anybody else in MLB history, how can that be discounted ?

Frank Thomas couldn't carry Pujols' or Manny's water.

Thomas was the guy who brought back high BA with excellent power. He was a one of a kind for years.

End the thread.

He was the answer ever before the PED allegations.

That's like saying he was a good cop before he robbed a bank. He damaged the game and more deserving players' legacy.

None of that was the original question...

Yes. wOBA is contrived. Contrived with well-thought-out weights for all aspects of batting.

Why do y'all keep bringing up totals when we're arguing rates?

Here is a big example of why WOBA is contrived.
The idea Aaron fattened his HR totals at home is nonsense. For his career he hit 385 at home and 370 on the road. If you use JUST road HRs of every hitter Aaron still comes out #1 other than Bonds.
His advantage in Atlanta is offset by his disadvantage in Milwaukee.

That has nothing to do with wOBA.

wOBA and the advanced stats that come from it are superior to ops and the stats that come from ops. . Ops is the obtuse simpleton cousin of wOBA.

Enjoy him while his arm lasts.
It's almost painful to watch the way he hyperextends and whips his throwing arm and shoulder.
If he has a long career he'll be a medical marvel.
If it lasts for 3 years, then I'm happy.

wOBA weighs OBP over slugging, not the other way around.
