Just a spring practice, so you can imagine when the live bullets start flying.

One of the lesser emphasized parts of the tunnel walk that I think is really cool is the "I PLAY FOR NEBRASKA" sign over the entrance to the stadium.

What does the horseshoe stand for?

There are a few stories about the horseshoe dating back to the 1970's. The story that I've heard about its origin dates back to the construction of Memorial Stadium in 1923. It was found in the dirt at the location where the stadium was to be built and so it became part of the history of the stadium. I don't know if it's completely true or not because the story behind the horseshoe has kind of faded into obscurity. It's just something that has always been there.

That horseshoe must have been hanging upside down the past decade.

Looked it up myself. Pretty cool.

I didn't know that place existed. I always see Frontier City off the interstate when I'm down in OKC.

Springlake Amusement Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We had Playland Park in Council Bluffs, Ia and Peony Park in Omaha when I was a kid. My dad used to take us to Playland to watch the car races and to ride the rides. Demolition Derby's were my favorite. The amusement park and speedway closed in 1977.
Playland Speedway

Omaha had Peony Park with a roller coaster, haunted house, other rides and a 4.5 acre beach type pool. Used to go there with my buddies in my early teens. It closed in 1994.

Went to Springlake every week when I was a kid.
It closed in 1976. It was a blast.

Cool vid. Took me back in time. Wish we still had something like that around here to take the kids to.

I took them to the Drive-In last summer so they could experience that. There's only two left in Nebraska and the nearest one to us is a 2 hour drive so we had to get a hotel. Sat on lawn chairs in the back of the pick-up, got some concession stand food, and took it all in. The Drive-in was packed and they had the inflatable slides and stuff for the kids to play on and games they could play and win prizes before the movie started at dark.

All in all I dropped about $150 on hotel, meals, gas, and admission, to go see Smurfs 2, but it was damn worth it.
