No, they sucked because after Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels, nobody pitched competently for a full six months and a bullpen that used 50 million different relievers

As you say, pitching was also a problem as ERAs went went over 4.0 for the first time since 2009 (to 4.28) but you can't win without scoring runs. The Phillies had been averaging over 700 runs in the last few years. This season they only managed 605 runs, 79 less than 2012.

They didn't score many runs but even if they did score more runs they'd still have a lot of losses - the starting pitching was historically bad and the bullpen blew a lot of games - you can't win with shitty pitching - they have to improve the pitching first - that's why I would love for them to shell out some money for Tanaka - he's the real deal

Yes, I said buy Tanaka at the end of October. In Japan 99-35, 2013: 24-0, 1,238K 235 BB. The price will be out of sight so I doubt if we'll get him. We will still need a solid hitter, preferably an outfielder like Cruz, a guy who can be platooned and come off the bench to do what JMJ .227 and Nix .181 could not do.

I don't get your logic - .200, .312, .352, .388 - that's progress. Seems like it would be harder to say his fortunes would have reversed if he continued playing. No kidding, the 2013 team sucked - that's because Revere, Utley, Howard, and Ruiz lost 8 months or so.

Imagine if he plays all 6 months this year. By September he should be hitting around .500.......

You Phillies fans seem to think you can get whoever you want whenever you want. It's not that easy. You guys are always throwing out high profile names that should be on your team... Not saying Fowler is a high profile name but still. Ever heard of a farm system?

Our GM does not believe in the farm system. When we do bring players up, he does not give them a full season to develop. He judges them quickly, and he reduces them to bench roles. He is a sick egotistical man. He wants to buy players,so he can prove how smart he is,in case the Phillies do well with his purchases.

Also, his slugging percentage increased from May to June by 60 points from .351 to .414 and then another 60 points from June to July with an increase from .414 to .469. At this rate, his slugging percentage would have ended around .600

I am working on calculating his expected homerun output based on his increase in HR production as the season progressed last year to see what we should expect this upcoming season. Not to make it too complicated but the formula I used looks something like 0+(0*0.00)+(0*0.00)+(0*0.00)+(0*0.00)+(0*0.00)+(0*0.00)=X , where X is equal to the total number of homeruns Revere would be expected to hit in 2014 based on past performance.

I will come back on here later to post my findings

Try this one Cedrique. f(x)= X+5; g(x)= 3x-4. Evaluate f(3) and g(3) in the final function of f/g+2.

Still 0, but there is a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent-in other words, maybe he hits one that takes a weird bounce and gets and inside the parker.

Ever heard of a farm system?

Aggreed. The DBacks won the world series with a TON of help from home grown players. Lets look at that starting line upand take a moment to appreciate all that home grown talent.

C Damian Miller - acquired via expansion draft
1B Mark Grace - free agent signing
2B Jay Bell - free agent signing
3B Matt Williams - acquired via trade
SS Tony Womack - acquired via trade
LF Luis Gonzalez - acquired via trade
CF Steve Finley - free agent signing
RF Reggie Sanders - free agent signing

Starting rotation:
Curt Schilling - acquired via trade
Randy Johnson - free agent signing
Brian Anderson - acquired via expansion draft
Robert Ellis - free agent signing
Albie Lopez - acquired via trade

That's right, two. TWO players via draft. Congrats. Hey, how many world series have the DBacks been in since they bought the 2001 roster? Should be a TON since they rely heavily on home grown talent.

Every fan base discusses big name players they hope to sign or trade for. The Phillies fans are no different.

When we won the WS our team had only been in existence 4 years. It's not like we even had a farm system. Ill tell you right now our best players are homegrown. Paul Goldschmidt, Gerardo Parra, Patrick Corbin, etc.

The Phillies actually have a good farm system. The problem is that they leave players down there too long even when they seem capable of hitting or pitching at a higher level. St. Louis brings their young promising players up before then get PTSD from riding buses for years. The Phils could have brought up Darin Ruf in early 2012 to fill in for Howard at first when he was out for half the season. Justin DeFratus pitched well for 5 years in single and double A before he got a shot. The team then brings in guys like Laynce Nix (.180) who proves he can do no better than the talent in double AA. Maybe Sandberg could make recommendations for harvesting the talent.

Exactly, look at the Red Sox this year - here's their lineup and rotation:

C - Jarrod Saltalamacchia - Via Trade(I think), David Ross(FA signing)
1B - Mike Napoli - FA signing
2B - Dustin Pedroia - Drafted By Red Sox
SS - Stephen Drew - FA Signing
3B - Will Middlebrooks/Xander Boegarts - Drafted By Red Sox
CF - Jacoby Ellsbury - Drafted By Red Sox
RF - Shane Victorino - FA Signing
LF - Jonny Gomes - FA Signing
DH - David Ortiz - FA Signing(long time ago)

Rotation
Jon Lester - Drafted By Red Sox
John Lackey - FA Signing
Jake Peavy - Via Trade
Clay Buchholz - Drafted By Red Sox

Also, Koji was brought in as an FA and he was dominant for them

Only 5-6 of these guys were home grown by the Sox - the reason they got back on track was because of those free agent signings - they brought in the right FA's to lead the team back to where they needed to be
