I had this conversation with a fellow golfer...With one major left this season who is your front runner?

My pecking order

Phil - 3 wins, Open, Scottish Open, Phx Open, 7 top 5 finishes.

Tiger - 4 wins, Farmers, WGC Cadillac, Bayhill, Players, 5 top finishes

Kuchar - 2 wins, needs to win the PGA to have any shot

Snedeker - 2 wins, needs to win the PGA to have any shot

Scott & Rose - Win the PGA and they shoot to the top imo

Your thoughts.

You've got it exactly right in my opinion. Should Woods win the PGA he jumps over Mickelson as does Scott or Rose. If Kuchar or Snedecker should win they'd jump into second.

Phil's Scottish Open doesn't count towards consideration.. All are pretty even right now in my book. If one of them wins the PGA then thats your POY

I forget, but I think there are 2 such awards, one is voted upon and the other is points based I think.

I think it gets real interesting if Sneds or Kuch win the PGA because as SFNL pointed out Phil's Euro tour win doesn't count if this is the points based award.

I have no clue how much the FEDEX cup winner weighs into this.

The PGA will likely decide it...the way the season has gone none of the above will win the PGA...lol.

Phil has a lot of confidence right now...Tiger does not (at least not on the weekend of a major)...Kuch & Sneds probably are pretty confident as well....Maybe Dustin Johnson gets redemption...should be fun to watch this play out.

Here is how I would put them heading into another WGC

1. Woods...1 WGC title, the 5th major, 2 junky wins
2. Phil... 1 major, 1 junky win
3. Scott... 1 major
3. Rose... 1 major
5. Kuchar... 1 WGC, 1 junky win
6. Sneds... 2 junky wins

Basing this just off of wins, this is how my vote would go today but it is close and could change this week. 4 wins for Woods is a lot and 2 of them were fairly large tournaments.

Bullshit. Its as least as good a win as 3 of Woods' wins.

I don't care about the points. I'm basing mine on who had the best year.

LOL! There is no 5th Major. There are only four. This is not the LPGA. But, hey, perhaps Woods could win a Major on that tour.

I realize there isn't a 5th major... The Players certainly isn't a junky win though.

Okay... So you gonna count GMac's 3 overseas wins then? Makes no sense. This is about the PGA Tour POY.

PGA POTY is the pts based system
PGA TOUR POTY is voted on by the players

Since the PGAT award came into play in 1990 the same player has won both awards every year except 2. '90 & '91.

I understand you don't care about the points, but it typically produces the player with the best year.

Definitely not! Its one of the biggest tournament. You may know that I believe he cheated in that event too. Remember his ball in the water on Sunday? His drop was astoundingly ridiculous. Even Johnny Miller said Woods was cheating. Woods intimidated that little shit he was playing with into saying he agreed on where the ball crossed the hazard. I may be old, but I've got two eyes, and that ball crossed the hazard just in front of the tee box, not 220 yards down the fairway.

GMAC's wins are quality wins. One was at Harbour Town though, they weren't all over seas. The reason he won't win though is because he either wins or he misses the cut. I think he's missed about 8.

That's interesting. I didn't know there was that detailed of a formula.

Good work Dutch...based on this model Tiger is the front runner right now with 70 pts and Phil 2nd with 58 pts.

I have zero respect for that ass clown.

Some venom there...obviously you feel he cheated on the course so I have to assume that's part of it, and if you're like most people that hate TW, his on course demeanor is part of it too.

I have no real issue with Tiger, (or Phil) but admittedly lost a lot of respect for him as well. Not so much on the course. I could handle the infidelity stuff, (I've been faithful for 25+ yrs somehow, but I know shit happens) Outright lying about it ran against the grain of how I was raised.

There was never an explanation when I got older, but growing up I got the worse beatings for lying...even small ones resulted in punishment so Lance Armstrong, Bill Clinton, all these people that try to deceive 1st and then come clean...too late.

That said...whether he catches Jack or not, Tiger imo is the best player the game has seen. Jack the great winner the game has seen since many of Snead's wins had pretty weak fields.
