Watching some Perron highlights on youtube; he plays in front of the net on the pp, and does a good job of screening/tips ins, likes to shoot (and score) from weird angles, and really loves scoring goals. He reacts to goal scoring similar to how Malkin does, very excited each time.

He'll fit in nicely with Johnston's offensive gameplan, then. I think we have to keep him and Hornqvist split up, though, since they have basically the same style and role. One for Crosby (probably Hornqvist) and one for Malkin.

When the team's healthy, he'll be a really nice piece on the second powerplay unit, too. In the meanwhile, he should fill Hornqvist's role nicely on the first unit.

Also, outside of the top ten picks, there's not that much extra value as you move down the drafting order. You can find a lot of talent, but there's a lot of risk to it after the top ten.

Plus, if we deal Martin, we may recoup a pick. Even an offseason trade of his negotiating rights could get us a decent second rounder, which won't be that much lower than the first we traded for Perron.

Yeah that late of a first round pick for 2 years of a top 6 forward is worth it. If this was for the first overall then I bet the Penguins wouldn't have made that deal because they wouldn't have talent on their roster to warrant a player like Perron, whereas you can build with that pick.

What is funny if you go to the years '07-'10 and look at the 25 and on first round picks the best talent so far has been David Perron. There are a few others but it is really a crap shoot.

Sounds like a good pickup. I mean Pens got Col. Klink and a draft pick for Samuelson (who wasn't going to play in Pittsburgh anyway). Perron looks good, even playing in Deadmonton so he might really do well in Pittsburgh. My only concern was giving up a first round pick, but like you pointed out its going to be low first round, so I guess I can live with that.

That having been said, maybe Rutherford can trade Adams for a bag of pucks and a stick rack.

That call on Ehrhoff at the end of the period was weak. That was a nudge. Guys get away with a heck of a lot more all the time.

But the Pens have been pretty good. Skating well.

That call on Ehrhoff on the boards was terrible. It was a scrum for the puck. Callahan wasn't moving his feet. That's never called a hold. Never.
