Too much maintenance, I imagine. If you own a plane, you gotta pay pilots, mechanics, fees, storage, etc. Most pro franchises have probably looked at the costs and said, "nah...cheaper to just charter"

I was flying out of Baltimore / DC once and saw a plane adorned in Ravens colors and imagery I guess they have some sort of decals for that purpose.

Ahh, I just read the article...says that most of the types of planes that the major airlines use for sports teams are ageing out of usage, and it's costing the airlines too much to over-haul the old ones.

Also chartered flights are getting more expensive, and teams might find it cheaper to buy their own planes going forward. So we will probably see more of this from several other teams soon

You have to read the article. It's driven by the fact that chartering is getting expensive for reasons mentioned.

Also partially driven by trying to get an edge.

I can see it for MLB or NBA teams that travel so often, surprised they did this for 8-12 days a year including preseason and playoffs.

I was just saying to my wife that I bet it's going to get used a fair amount for charity flights. Would be a great way to offset much of the cost.
