He still has it imo. At worst he's a good clubhouse guy to keep the young guns in check

Though Francona certainly made it sound like the Indians were just helping him audition for another team

Yes, there were no allusions about him having a role with this year's roster. Of course many things can happen injury wise, especially with this club's recent history.

He still has it imo.

At the risk of being a buzzkill, he sure has sucked balls for a guy who still has it.

.220/.317/.438/.754/96 OPS+ over the last three seasons.

Over his last 655 PAs going back to September 1, 2016, he's slashed .182/.281/.398/.680.

I like the guy and he was fun in 2016, but I think you can stick a fork in him.

Good clubhouse guy? Wasn't there photographic evidence of him fucking his then teammate, Clay Buchholz's wife?

Yeah, I loved Napoli on the Sox but he's had some pretty lousy years as of late. Even with the 34 home runs he had in 2016, he had a 113 wRC+. Solid, but not very good for a 1B/DH.

Still, there's not many things in baseball I enjoy more than when Napoli crushes one. Just an outstanding power hitter.

Wasn't Nap kind of a flop in the 2016 WS? He probably had nothin' left that late. No team really wants him on their roster, must be a tough thing to face as a ballplayer.

So if you remove the word leader, he's basically Matt Kemp? Either a home run or a strikeout or double play machine?

I think it's possible that the Indians gave him that contract so they could have him around to consider/discuss potential front office/coaching positions with the team.
