Honestly, I think it was between Brogdon and Embiid -- but he got the short end because he missed so many games. Brogdon had a pretty good year, probably better than Dario's.

Games played and he started on a playoff team. I dont think its anything more than that. He's certainly not a better prospect or more talented than anyone of the other rookies who made either all rookie team.

Brogdon 10.2 ppg 2.8 reb's 4.2 assts
Saric 12.8 ppg 6.3 reb's 2.2 assts

** I get that Embiid didn't play in enough games, but I'm not getting what Brogden did better than Saric to get the award?

Brogdon gets the better of Dario in virtually very advanced stat -- plus some of the traditional ones like steals per game and shooting percentage.

Brogdon: 1.1 spg, .457 FG%, .404 3P%, 14.9 PER, 111 ORtg, 111 DRtg, 4.1 WS, .100 WS/48, 0.8 VORP, contributor on playoff team
Dario: 0.7 spg, .411 FG%, .311 3P%, 12.8 PER, 96 ORtg, 109 DRtg, 1.0 WS, .023 WS/48, -0.1 VORP, most consistent player on a 28-win team

It's not hard to see why Brogdon won over Dario. Even with Embiid's limited playing time, I think he had a bigger impact than Brogdon, so I'd have voted Embiid. But oh well.

Brogdon a little better on steals, Saric a little better on blocks ... I guess if you go into FG% I guess Brogdon has it? I would have given it to Embiid too btw ... I get that he didn't play a full season, but even so, I can't see giving the award to a dude who averaged 10 ppg.

Embiid
31 gp 25.4 min 20.2 pts 46.6 fg% 36.7 3pt% 7.8 rb 2.1 asst 0.9 sth 2.5 blk

Most players would play 35 minutes. If Embiid is healthy enough to do that moving forward and produced at the same level he would be a 28 point, 10 rebound a game guy.....That is all star level.

They opted to give the rookie award to a journeyman producer who was healthy all year rather that a future all star. Fair enough. Embiid will get his accolades when and if he plays.

As I said -- I'd have voted for Embiid. I think Brogdon has a pretty strong case over Dario, though -- so I'm not going to be upset he won it over Dario. I think Embiid was the best rookie that played in 2016-2017 and so I would have voted for him.

Dario dominated that little fucking Brogdon fool. That bitch is going to get it when he comes to Philly this year.

Dario was scoring over 20 every other game at the end of the year. He put up 32, 29, 28, 25, 23, 23... Brogdon didn't do shit. Mostly in the low teens.

That bitch Brogdon wasn't even healthy. Brogdon missed a whole week at the end of the year while Dario was killing it. I hope Dario is pissed off and rips some heads next year.

All Brogdon showed was the ability to be consistently average ... Saric actually showed real improvement as the year progressed. 20 or more point games: Saric 14 Brogdon 2

Why are you guys only looking at points per game and rebounds per game? Dario was not as efficient offensively as Brogdon, was worse defensively, and played for a loser. It's really not that awful that Brogdon got the nod over Dario. I'd rather have Dario than Brogdon but Brogdon is a solid player in his own right.

A rookie that comes in and plays 3-and-D well is a very valuable piece. His numbers are comparable to Covington's "rookie year" in 2014-2015. Everyone needs to chill out.

It all depends on how you look at it ... to me Saric showed the last 2 months of the season the ability to develop into a "go-to" type player down the line. Brogdon at no point showed to be anything more than a role player. Defensively he may be better than Saric ... but is he really anything special there? 1.1 steals is ok but .2 blocks per game is bad for a player that's supposedly good defensively. Shooting percentage and efficiency were better than Saric's, but then again Saric received a heck of a lot more attention from Defenses once Embiid went out than Brogdon did at any point.

To be honest it does not really matter to me that Brogdon won the ROY. The best rookie in the NBA by far was Embiid. The biggest problem for him is health. He only played in 31 games IIRC. To play that few games and still be a finalist for the ROY speaks volumes.
