For recording software, I have Cubase on my comp at home; you can supposedly do wonders with it, but I was never all that serious with the recording aspect so I never figured much out. A lot of my friends at home just used Garage Band for Macs, and most of their shit sounded mint.

Unless you're doing a lot of complex multitrack stuff, or if you're trying to add effects, or sound professional, I think you'd be okay with just something you can download for free--I don't really know any to recommend though.

How is the transition from a 6 string to a 7? I wanna buy one to have more area to cover musically, but I hear it is very awkward at first. I've never even played one.

It was kinda tough at first especially with the extended scale but I love it.

I'm really taking a liking to jazz fusion lately. 3 groups/artists I've been listening to non-stop.

Alex Skolnick Trio (Guitarist from Testament)

Al Di Meola

Rodrigo Y Gabriela

Tyler, you seriously got me hooked on classical guitar. I'm on the hunt for a decent one now.

In case you fellow guitarists never heard of these guys, definitely check them out. Just found them on my iPod, forgot I even had these records...

Django Reinhardt
Eddie Lang
Oscar Aleman
Dick Hyman
Jimmy Rosenberg
Dave Ricketts and Mike Groh of Gaucho
John Jorgenson of the John Jorgenson Quintet

They use interesting scales, and have awesome technique. Aside from shredding, guitar playing has been simplified over the years. Jazz from the early to mid 1900's was so complex. This is actually Gypsy Jazz. Hope you enjoy...

I would like to use this thread to cover stuff that fellow guitarists on SportsHoopla are working on, and maybe review some equip/guitars we have or plan on getting. Would be cool, I don't want to join another forum for guitar playing.

As a guitarist myself, I always thought it was cool that Django Reinhardt could play the way he does given that he was only able to use two fingers, the other two being basically paralyzed in a fire. Pretty awesome stuff.

Found my next guitar... Baritone with built in capo to switch to standard tuning easily. This is perfect for my metal playing. $999.00, worth it. The reviews are excellent.

$3,500? is that a 10-top?
you should be able to get a real nice PRS (without the figured top) for half that.

lol.. that thing is fucking ugly
but yeah, it would sure work for metal. I am assuming a Gwar cover band or something :D

I have an Ibanez with a drop-shifter on the top string (mainly for drop-d, but you can set it for whatever you want), but it's a bit of a battle keeping it in tune.

The baritone and sliding capo did it for me. I always wanted a baritone or a 7 string, but I hear nothing but raving reviews for the Steinbergers... As of right now, I am sold, but that could change. I'm not in the market for at least 3 months.
