You should have seen the next gen LED from Sony at CES last week - 6 million front mounted LED's that rival OLED - gonna make LED's really afordable compared to OLED's.

I'm gonna hold out about 5-8 years for augmented reality 3d- that's the next big breakthrough - in both display and for gamers - instead of projecting images, it will augment the viewer's surroundings with images.

I still have to catch up on all of the G4 coverage of CES I DVR'd. It sucks now that I don't get invited to see these suckers up close like I did last year!

Personally, I just use a 19in 720p LED. But hey, it's not the size or specs, but the motion of the ocean. Ladies. ;)

TBH, I never really use the 3D part of my 63" Samsung Plasma... I needed a new TV and it was one of the best (2D) ones available and it just happened to have 3D as well.

It came with free 2 pairs of glasses, a 3D Blu-Ray player and a 3D Blu-Ray movie.

The price of "the same" (roughly equivalent) TV sans 3D would have been a couple hundred dollars cheaper (if that), so no big deal.

But yeah, 99.99% of stuff I watch is 2D HD or PS3/Blu-Ray... /shrug

I'm not on board with this unless I get to wear one of those VR hats they always put people in on crappy TV shows so I can look like a complete tool:

I have a 3D Samsung Plasma at home.

Don't watch very much 3D though. Got the 5 movies that came in the starter pack and have only bought one or two since then.

The problem was really that we wanted a top-notch 2D and the TV makers only put their best 2D technology into the 3D TVs so that they can charge more.

I'd go with the Panasonic.

When we bought a few months back, we had literally decided on a Panasonic and then when I logged on to Amazon to buy, there was a really good deal on a Samsung that we liked a little better but were going to pass on because it was (normally) quite a bit more expensive.

had a panasoinc viera plasma as my first ever HD TV I had it for almost 5 years before I started to see ghosting on the screen from gaming (had Halo 3 symbols on the bottom left and right corner. it was subtle but once you notice it its always there. I gave the TV when I got my 60 sony 3D to my friends parents who don't notice anything on it. the TV is still strong. heavy as frak but still good almost 6 years later.

I think plasma is still the way to go for the best picture quality, contrast, brightness, and viewing angle, though it definitely is not as good for bright room viewing (not an issue in my setup).

Regarding the burn-in/ghosting, that used to be a major issue on plasmas but has now gotten way better. If video games are the primary use of the tv, you may not want to go plasma, but if you intend to watch tv/movies a lot in addition to gaming, you should be fine. You can also find free media files that will scroll through different colors to get the plasma broken in so that burn-in ceases to be an issue.

Had my Samsung plasma since mid-October, no ghosting issues, amazing picture quality.
