I don't think tonight's lineup is out yet but don't be surprise if Smith and Ackley sits vs. Wilson (left handed pitcher) despite both of these guys having a huge game yesterday. Smith is a career .205 vs. lefties and Ackley .236. We'll most likely see this against lefties all year where Smith is used in a platoon situation.

Ruggiano and Weeks probably starts tonight. Ruggiano career .266 vs lefties and Weeks .261. Easy choice to go with these two tonight imo.

I agree, I would actually be SHOCKED if Weeks and Ruggs weren't in the lineup tonight....

I worked from home yestrday so I could tune in. Great game. and as has been said, besides Canos rbi, the big 3 were quite, with seags and cruz going ofer. The rest of the lineup produced!!!!

Thats the beauty of having a middle of the line up, your other guys don't have the gigantic carry the offense pressure, and can produce, especially when the pitcher sort of "relaxes" after getting the big three out, next hting you know, Ackley goes boom stick and Smith hits another extra base hit.

And to the poster complaining about the scheduling.... it was opening "day" all but two games were played during the day.

I assume that's probably a reference to my post. Hahaha. Nah, I'm perfectly OK with the MLB scheduling, I never had an issue with it and I fully understand it was opening "day" -- it was just me being a little ticked that I couldn't watch the game with probably the best pitcher in the AL. It's also nice to see the M's actually open at home for once... it has been ages.

At any rate, it's still so much better than having opening day starts in Japan! ugh.

I would be shocked too. Especially because that is the reason they are on the team. Kinda a no brainer here. I am interested to see this platooned outfield in action, I am still not sold on having a majority of your outfield a platoon.

It worked like a finely tuned automobile yesterday.... in theory, it should work, Smith rakes vs righties, ackley is better vs them then lefties. Weeks and Ruggs both hit lefties well.... we'll see htough.

Ackley is a .172 hitter lifetime against Wilson. I got him on my fantasy team.

The lineup absolutely worked yesterday, but you can't say the platoon worked cause it hasn't happened yet. I actually like Smith and Ruggs in RF, I am confident those guys will do well this season. I am not convinced yet that Weeks and Ackley will work. It is one of those things that we will have to wait and see on.

Another reason why you won't see him in the lineup today.

If Weeks can be the Endy Chavez type of player like last year, I'll be absolutely thrilled with it.

Here's tonight's lineup:

Weeks - DH
Jackson - CF
Cano - 2B
Cruz - RF
Seager - 3B
Ruggiano - LF
Morrison - 1B
Zunino - C
Miller - SS

Kinda surprised Cruz is in RF and Weeks is the DH

Haha! Well, we all kinda expected Weeks and Ruggiano to start, but didn't expect Weeks to DH... hope this works out for the M's. It's not a knock on Cruz as a right fielder, but I think I'd be more comfortable if he DH.:noidea:

Weeks has never played the outfield before. So I am not all that comfortable with Weeks out there to be honest. Cruz at least has some experience in the OF. Im good with Weeks DHing today. Id expect Cruz to get a few starts a week in the OF.

Paxton's looking good through 3 innings. The thing I like about the Ruggiano/Smith platoon after 12 innings so far is that they've been willing to work the count and put up good at-bats. Obviously it's helped that Smith had 3 XBH's yesterday, but Ruggiano has walked twice in two plate appearances, so he hasn't been anxious to make a good first impression and overdone it trying to get a hit.

yeah, ruggiano just got dominated by wilson after flailing wildly at a couple of 85 mph sliders, and then looking at a 90 mph fastball right down the middle for a k.

wilson toying with m's hitters now.
