Dutch Gretzky and this year's all star game MVP both got Gordie Howe hat tricks in the first period. I'd bet Iginla's performance last night inspired them.

Can't remember a guy more deserving of an EN goal than Connor Brown tonight. What a game this kid just played.

2 pts back of Ottawa and equal on ROW. Keep it rollin!

That 'canes team is a lot better than they get credit for.

Hope it's not a too little too late situation for them.

Elias makes it official. One of the more underrated guys of the past 15 years, could have been a 80+ point guy each year if he played on an offensive minded team. Probably the last retired number for the Devils for awhile.

They made a mistake in bringing back Cam Ward and starting him in 60 games.

If they had started with Lack and maybe picked up Halak off waivers when he was on it they’re probably a playoff team.

Let me just say that I agree with Thornton - I've seen some questionable/dirty hits from Emelin over the years and I know that he won't fight because of facial surgery that he had several years ago (I think he has several metal plates inserted under his left eye). I know a lot of people will likely dismiss the message because it's coming from Shawn Thornton (who hasn't exactly been a Lady Byng candidate throughout his career), but I think he's right about Emelin.

Edit - lol - Looks like Kenny and I are on the same wavelength this morning.

Is he right about Emelin being a piece of shit? Sure.

Is he right that pieces of shit like that are some new thing that's suddenly sprung up because of how the game is officiated and attitudes towards the roles of fighting and fighters? Well, let's say I think that's a little harder case to make.

Yeah, this romanticizing or revisionist history about guys being more hono(u)rable in years past than they are today is bs, in my opinion. Those Battle of Alberta playoff series in the 80s would make some of the games today look like a Sunday church social.

It just occurred to me too... this is the same Shawn Thornton that played with Brad Marchand for a number of years, right? No matter what you think of Marchand's effectiveness as a player I don't know that anyone would characterize him as someone who's "answered the bell" over the years.

Absolutely. The first hockey game I ever paid to watch (well my Dad paid) Ken Linseman kicked a guy in the face. I was too young to remember any of this but there was a lot of bullshit hockey back in the day.

Just this season alone Emelin probably deserved three suspensions. He got none. I just don't understand it.

I'll admit I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned here but at the game Tuesday the officials (who were out to fucking lunch the whole game both ways) actually overturned a high-stick call on Polak after looking up at the video board and seeing it was actually a puck that hit the Panthers player.

I think the arena in unison said the same thing: "well, I've never seen that before!"

Jimmy Vesey's a healthy scratch tonight. Since getting 17 points in his first 30 games, Vesey has 9 in his next 46.
