This would all have been prevented if the NCAA made a rule in which you needed to be a conference champ in order to qualify for the playoffs.

But that would be a stupid rule.
Why? In a system with only 12 games, how can you argue teams who don't win their conference can also be one of the top 4 teams? Especially when there are 5 power 5 conferences and only 4 spots? But that would be a stupid rule.
Nah, TBD in ‘19, but it’s looking good.
The NCAA has no say in the CFP.
If the NCAA tried to mandate that, the CFP Committee could tell them to go copulate with themselves. The NCAA couldn’t do a GD thing about it.
Insightful OP.
Maybe if you hold your mouth just right Texas will lose fewer than 4 games sometime before 2050...

Well let's hope the CFP committee never makes that decision then lol
I'm sure some special rule would be implemented for ND.So who should've replaced Notre Dame? A 4 loss Washington team or a 1 loss Ohio State team that got blown out by an unranked team and could BARELY beat 2 other unranked teams?
See above. Though, I personally think - yes. Join a conference and STFU.So independents are locked out?

I'm fine with that. Force ND into a conference. That time is coming anyway and they're already basically in the ACC.Then the entire rule would be stupid.
Either you have to win your conference or you don’t. No special papal dispensations.

I remember the dark times in T-town. The Mikes were coaching. Thats why when Bama does take one on the chin its really no big deal to me. Sure i want to Bama to win everygame like all us fanatics do when your team is playing. Ive sat thru some ugly games at Legion Fiels and BDS. Thats why i appretiate this run Saban an the Tide have been on.Oh how quick these Bammer bandwagon fans forget how their squad was before Saban arrived. I know Texas has looked like shit for 9 years, similar to how Bama's football program looked. It happens. It will happen to Bama again once your GOAT retires. Enjoy it while you can bandwagon boy.......

I really hope that doesn't happen but it seems like that's likely. The NCAA and conferences would rather keep putting band-aids on things rather than do a deep fix of the issue. This all will be moot when we go to 8 teams.
