Source: Rangers to sign Doug Fister to a major league deal, pending a physical. Righty leaves the Red Sox, who helped him get back on track

Not a bad move. I'm still bitter about that entire thing.

has anyone tried the grasshopper yet?

Ahhhhhh no! I am not into outside the box foods. Best of luck to those who are. :)

I have. I got drunk enough to be willing to try it. The ones I got were the spicy flavored ones. They're mostly just crunchy and taste like whatever they are seasoned in. Taste wise they were pretty solid, although it's not something I think I'd ever order again because I couldn't help but continue to think about the fact that I was eating a bug.

Regarding Ohtani, I'm unsure what the Mariners really could offer him. The Mariners already have a good DH with Nelson Cruz. At best they could give Cruz a day off here and there and use Ohtani as a pinch hitter. As much as I want us to sign him, I think his value is best maximized with an NL team.

Mariners signed Kuma to minor league deal. Step one in the chase for Ohtani. Ohtani is a big Darvish fan so surprise M's haven't overpaid for him yet.

Baseball America's Bob Dutton reports that Kyle Lewis is still dealing with lingering issues in his right knee.

Lewis was forced to leave the AFL at the end of October because of soreness in his knee, and while there wasn't any structural damage, it sounds like this could be a chronic issue. The 2016 first-round pick has more talent than any prospect in the Seattle system, but the question is now if he'll ever be able to truly recover from the horrific ACL tear that has seen him miss all but 49 games in his two years as a professional. There's just as much risk in Lewis's profile as there is reward at this point.

Missed this and I am legitimately disappointed.

Yes I am guilty of throwing out the "same ole mariners" jokes but I saw him twice in Everett and loved what I saw. First Mariner prospect I was legitimately excited about in a long time. I really hope he can get healthy

I felt the same way about Alex Jackson when I saw him in spring training as a 19 year old. I still think there is something there with that kid. As far as Lewis goes, stud but with the worst kind of injury.

Another wasted trade by JD:

Padres signed RHP Jonathan Aro to a minor league contract.

Aro, 27, held a 3.16 ERA and 48/11 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings at Triple-A Tacoma in the Mariners organization in 2017, also serving a 50-game suspension there for testing positive for a drug of abuse. He hasn't gotten much of a chance in the majors to this point but could get that opportunity with the Padres.

MLBTR estimates that Drew Smyly will earn $6.85 million in arbitration, so I guess that is the end of the Drew Smyly era in Seattle. What a glorious campaign that was!

I guess they could non-tender him and then bring him back at a cheaper salary, but, seriously, let's just move on.

I actually hope the do re-sign him to a cheaper deal. Hold onto all pitchers you can if the price is right. He looked terrific the game he got hurt in.

I guess that is how fans can rebel against the Mariners not winning. Just start putting non recyclables in the recycle bins.

When do they hang the banner and hand out the bobble heads of people recycling trash? The team finally won something!

Yea tried it once and didn't hate it but they were nothing special.

Wont need to try them again

I think I will give them a try next game I make it to.

Only in Marinerville would you see a positive article written about a guy on the official Mariners site but with a mention on how they didn't even protect him for the Rule 5 draft...lol.

Ian Miller an outfield option for Mariners
