2020 is a long time, I see where you're coming from but 90 mil is still nothing compared to the Dodgers 238 mil and they're only paying Puig 6 mil a year. With Puig and potentially Pederson at such a bargain, there's no reason why the Dodgers shouldn't have the talent to make it out of the first round.

No doubt that Kemp would be a gamble for the Padres, and even if he "hits", he would still lock up a decent chunk of their funds. I am just saying that they appear to be trying to turn themselves around and be more competitive with LA and SF.

However, they do have a very nice pitching staff, so adding some legit bats might make them scary.

In contrast, Ian Desmond had similar numbers to Rollins last year and is seeking a deal over 100 million. Rollins was the absolute ideal choice for a 1 year player at SS.

Exactly... and if Seager is not quite ready to go in 2016, we can offer Rollins a nice 1 year deal to hang on.... win/win.

I,for one, LOVE the Kendrick deal. I personally feel like he would be a better fit long term than Guerrero will be at 2B. Remember, Kendrick is only a couple years older than Guerrero (Kendrick just turned 31 and Guerrero will be 29 during the season). If we sign Kendrick to a 4 year deal after this year for say 50 million, I think it would be well worth it.

I'm pretty bummed that we spent 50+ million on two backend starting pitchers with histories of major injury issues (bulging disk surgery, foot stress fracture, habitual shoulder issues etc). Why not go after a Sheilds? Seemed a bit odd. Oh well, productive off season that positioned this team to compete in the next 2-4 years.

well, Anderson is only a 1 year deal and personally I see him coming out of the bully anyway as a spot starter. I still think they will make a play for Hamels, Shields or maybe even Scherzer. I am confident in saying Brandon McCarthy will be our #5 starter on Opening Day.

If they stay healthy then these moves will be seen as genius, with that said I was expecting a higher caliber starter as well.

Brian Wilson has been DFA'd, so if they add another decent bullpen arm, I'll still feel good about it.

Anderson is well worth the risk for this team, he's been a good pitcher when healthy, which is a huge question mark, but this team has the funds to take that risk and they should be taking risks.

I think we all agree if they stay healthy, great moves. And we all know they have the resources to make bold moves. However, coddling injury prone, backend pitchers all season long as in watching/limiting their pitch count, will only place more stress on a bullpen and the front end of the rotation - and we know how that turned out last year.

Great off season, but if defense is your objective, then you might as well do it all the way if you have the resources.

I'm ok with this current team being our team going forward... maybe getting rid of Ethier and adding some more pitching depth wouldn't hurt though.

Supposedly Baltimore showed interest in Ethier... Nothing imminent. Agreed, he'd be a great piece to move!

If we moved Ethier to Baltimore and went to war with Crawford,Peterson and Puig, I would be ok with that for sure. None of the reports say what the Dodgers were asking for in return... Manny Machado??

Padres sign Shields, solid move. He will be effective in that park.

Puts the Padres closer to the top in the division. Bigger bats, young decent rotation and thoughts of moving the fences in. Padres on the rise.

I still like the Dodgers in the West. I'm not sure the Padres got THAT much better.

I don't like the Kemp move as his Ks are the ultimate rally killer in a park that will neutralize his power (love that we rid of Kemp). But overall, the Padres entered the conversation this offseason with many of their moves.

Off course you like LA to win it all, you're the consumate homer. However, it's our division to win with the Giants breaking up a bit and the rest of the division still a few years away.

I also think the Dodgers win the west, the Padres have done enough to over take the Giants though. I think everyone beats up on the Rockies and Diamondbacks.
