Bench: Meeks, Hicks, Johnson, Britt,Tokoto

I agree with Crystal on this one. I would love to see James improve enough to see playing time, but I think he needs more time. I see him being better by junior & senior years. Meeks will be like Johnson & James this last year, deer in headlights. I hope McDonald can hold his own. I just don't have a lot of faith in him. Very streaky & sometimes bone headed. O well, what ever happens I will be watching & cheering. I also see UNC is looking at Alabama transfer Trevor Lacey, a sophomore guard. He lead Alabama in assist & 3 point shooting last year.

Welcome Crystal, glad you found your way! I figured there's enough of Meeks to start and come off the bench at 300+.

Hows it going fellas? Finally made it this way - might as well take that other place off my bookmarks but I digress.

Paige
McDonald
Hairston
McAdoo
Johnson

This seems like the obvious answer considering Roy's track record. McDonald is locked in. He's been waiting patiently, has an opportunity that he was very unlikely to see and I'm sure Roy wont shy away from him. The frontcourt can easily be up in the air. If Brice doesnt make the leap expected this offseason, we could certainly see Hicks start to eat up his minutes or even rotating JMM down to let Joel or even Meeks flex their size in the paint. Of course that's if any of the scouting on our new guys rings true and they dont pull the freshman freeze, which is likely.

Just a thought, but could we see Britt playing some 2 as well? He plummeted down the rankings, but was also hurt quite a bit. If he's the good shooter they say he is then maybe we see him in alongside Paige. That would definately help the team since they will be thin on the wings. I'm desparately hoping Tokoto improves in leaps and bounds. I don't see him ever being a great shooter, but he should be pretty good in transition. if he could develop a middle game he could really help this team.

One other thought, Ive being seeing posts on other boards about Hicks playing some 3. I'm not sold on him at the 3, but that would help as well.

Paige(6'0") and Britt (6'1") would be a small back court, but I could see it at times, especially if Roy uses the small ball concept at times next year, with McDonald at the 3, Hairston at the 4 and McAdoo at the 5. I think a whole lot depends on the development of the bigs. I'm not sure Hubert will improve much, but hopefully Johnson can have Henson type improvement between freshman and sophomore season. Also, hopefully James improves quite a bit. I am not convinced Meeks will add much next year, but Hicks should be able to log some minutes at the 4 and maybe 5. If Hicks and Johnson can play the 4, we may see McAdoo get some time at the 3.

McDonald is not starter material...and neither is Hubert. At this point, after Paige, Hairston and McAdoo (the no-brainer starters) I think Johnson, James and Simmons have to be considered for the other 2 starting slots. The freshmen coming in this year will not be ready to start. With Roy's rotation pattern they should see plenty of playing time, especially in non-conference games, and with any luck, by the time conference play begins everybody should be able to hold their own on the floor. But as usual, get used to seeing a lot of guys (12) hit the floor - McDonald, Hubert, James, Johnson, Simmons, Tokoto, Hicks, Meeks and Britt should all see time with Paige, Hairston & McAdoo seeing about 30-minutes of action per game to hold it all together.

I think McDonald will do fine as a starter. Regardless, the fact that he is a senior means Roy will give him every opportunity to start. He will definitely start to begin the season. Roy has always been loyal to seniors. To me Paige, McDonald, Hairston and McAdoo are all no brainers. The big question is which big improves enough to grab the last spot.

Look, no matter how we try to shuffle the deck, there is no good starting lineup to be found next year. And there is very little off the bench. The team is WEAK!!!

Let's face it, Reggie Bullock screwed us big time!!

And then Andrew Wiggins sucker punched us while we were already down.

I agree that Roy gives LMac the starting gig on opening night. I personally don't see him as a starter, but the options are limited. McDonald's never garnered huge minutes and maybe with 20+ minutes a game he blossoms. A lot of us, me included, were crying last year to get PJ in the starting lineup because he needed consistent minutes to find his groove. Hopefully McDonald can find his and be a reliable outside shooter.

Let's not forget mcd was tearing it up league wise before the injury. Once he gets back in rhythm he should be a good 3 pt specialist.

Dont be surprised to see a Paige/McDonald/Hairston/Hicks/JMM line up next season. I think both Hicks and Meeks have a chance at starting. As much as I love JMM he is not a 5 and needs to/is more comfortable at the 4 with a bigger player at Center(Ex. His success with Zeller when Henson was injured in 09). Hicks is a 6'9" athletic PF and had an amazing stat-line in the state Championship game with 34 points and 30 rebounds. Meeks is big enough already to be the big Center to start with JMM if he is ready to play successfully at the college level already.
