man o man this is a tough spot.

by trading the #9 pick for him and not giving him a full season of work the devils are kinda in a hard spot.

do you give a loooooooooooooooong term deal to a guy that has never played a full season has only 1 playoff win in 2 playoff games (i believe). who some think couldn't "steal" the starting job from a bad 41 year old goalie.

i know the devils will try to sign him to a long term deal and i am for that i just hope he lives up to the expectations.

6.5M/7yr.

Below is a table illustrating Cory's stats over the past 3 seasons. As you can see he's clearly comparable to Howard, Rask, Henrik, Niemi, Quick, etc, etc.

Is he allowed to sign an extension yet? I thought there was a 1 year maximum time frame prior to the contract ending.

No. He can't sign it officially until after July 1. They're free to negotiate all they want though, then sign the deal on July 1.

i agree his stats are legit. just wanted him to be the legit #1 guy before he gets that big contract.

not in a situation where he goes 0-3-1 and then marty steps in for 3 or 4 games. then cory bounces back and goes 3-0. need that #1 to be able to work through the up's and downs and not let the "backup" get more then 1 start in between games

From an extremely credible insider, it was 100% Lou that was pushing Pete to keep playing Marty.

I believe that 100000% Lou is all hands on with this team. I don't blame Pete for sitting larrson or gelinas or whoever over shitty vets I believe Lou is all over that stuff

I'm pretty sure it was him on the grassy knoll that fateful day in Dallas.

Regardless of who was actually stirring the pot, I firmly believe there are too many cooks in the kitchen and there needs to be a shift in the regime. That does not mean that I do not appreciate everything that Lou has done, but some times change is what you need.

ESPN is reporting Marty is testing free agency because he wants to play one more year. Cant believe he will be in another jersey, but its time to move on. Wish he would just retire a devil but he feels he can do it for one more season. I just don't want him to pull time away from Corey... its time to move on.... Thanks for everything Marty, you should retire with us... but I understand....

It sucks that Marty is out searching for starting positions but he loves hockey so more power to him.

He was a great help for Schnieder this year. I really wanted him to fit into a backup/teaching role this following season but the Lou/DeBoer combo would end up turning it all into a huge disaster.

If Cory gets 60 games which he should marry isn't happy with 22 games at 42 years old. What a fucking tool. 22 games should be enough to get him 700 wins in 1 jersey. Means a lot more then in another jersey I guess not everyone thinks that

Love Marty but no team is going to give him the starting job. Maybe Edmonton but thats about it.

Maybe he goes to Montreal and becomes Price's backup but that means he'd probably play less then if he were to stay here.

Many of the contending teams already have decent backups. Just cant see where Marty fits in right now. Maybe Pittsburgh? Who knows
