Cy Young probably wasn't going to happen for him this year, and his team is pure dog shit. The motivation has to be running thin.

Felix has been a loyal trooper for the Mariners, but I can't imagine him not begging for a trade soon.

Can't blame his lineup this time for his dogshit start.

If anything, he has gotten the best run support of his career this year.

Jack would trade him for garbage, I would much rather him stay than jack be on control of trading him.

Agreed.

Not going to get into the trade Felix vs. hold on to him debate, but the one thing that is for sure is that is a trade YOU CANNOT FUCK UP. I just feel like trading Felix is way too risky.

I don't disagree, but I'm not sure why you're responding to me since nothing you said has anything to do with my post.

I didn't say Jack shit about wanting Z to trade him. I said he probably would like to be traded.

Swinging for the fences against a backup catcher, come on...

I'd probably feel differently if we were on the other end of this though.

Here is my one argument against your comment; What is the M's record since Felix joining them? Great pitcher, but team has done zip since his arrival so what risk is there really? We can lose with him or lose w/o him.

Agree... And I will add how many times has he pitched great when we needed him the most?

Sad thing is, the Boston Redsox would've beaten the Seahawks last night with that score...

Well, the Mariner's 46 games win streak in games in which they scored 6 or more runs has just been snapped. Last time they lost a game with this much support was September 5, 2013 (6-7 @KC in 13 innings).

I should add that the last time the M's lost while scoring 10 runs was June 2012.

Yeah, the M's haven't been much since Felix came here, but in all honesty, trading him won't make any difference, as the team will most likely still be bad.

The Mariners are 796-940 (.459) since the start of 2005. The team is 27% more likely to win in games started by Felix (.554 win %) than by any other pitcher (.436). They are also 37.5% more likely to win if Felix gets the decision (.584) than if anyone else gets it (.427).

The big problem has been that Z can't seem to win a trade. Even when it looks like he got a good deal - the performance of the players turns to crap. The Cliff Lee trade (which would be comparable with the caliber of player Felix is and what Cliff Lee was) turned out to be just horrendously bad. If he were to shop Felix, I would imagine him jumping for a deal like this:

Mariners send:
Felix Hernandez, RSP
Carson Smith, RRP

Chicago Cubs send:
Addison Russell, SS
Ivan Pineyro, RSP
Zach Cates, RRP
Albert Almora, CF

Totally agree and that was my point. Trading him would not be risky for the fact that we can't win with him or w/o him. So no risk of failure since we have failed for over a decade with him.

My point for a decade has been two fold, either increase salary by $50M (because there is no help coming from the minors) or do like we did pre '01 and deal or let walk every possible hall of famer making and try and build an equal 25 man lineup with no top talent and bottom talent but all medium talent.

I already posted how we had the highest percentage payroll based on top 3 paid players and how that doesn't work. Rockies I believe were second and they are trying to fix that by dealing Tulo.

So Felix has to become our new Randy and bring in 3 or 4 valuable pieces (say from the Dodgers), and hope they all contribute and save us enough money to build a complete pitching staff and outfield.

I don't think this team can do that. Even if they wanted to, Jack Z has written contracts to players that make it difficult to move them.

1) Cano's contract is unfriendly to this type of maneuvering. We're stuck with him until he's 40, and no amount of success now would convince any team to trade for that contract.

2) Kyle Seagar's deal gets pretty spendy here in just a couple years. Starting in 2018 (the year he turns 30), his salary will be at least 18 million until 2022 (team option @ 15 million). It's 8 million and 11 million the next two years respectively. His $4.5 million salary may not call for more production, but when it hits 18 million, fans may want to see more than .260 & 25 HRs.

3) Nelson Cruz's contract is due 14 million through 2018, and despite his success this season, I'm not sure anyone expects him to be worth that 14 million when he's 38.

4) Felix has a full no trade clause in his contract, as well as 10-5 rights. Even if Seattle wanted to trade him, Felix would have to want to be traded. Despite Seattle's ineptitude, and his fiery competitiveness (a combo you wouldn't think mixes well), Felix seems to like it here and doesn't want to leave.

We have over $84 million set for 2018, and only 4 players, all of which will be 30 or older. With no real way to see how any one of these 4 contracts is moved, the team will be in the same position it is right now (or even worse).
