If you look at the Royals rosters during the height of the steroid era, it's pretty obvious that even though steroids helped power hitters, you still needed some kind of ability. It wasn't just a magic needle.

Hosmer's put together a very good season, but he still hits too many ground balls (55%) and he has a career high BABIP (.355). I'd love to hear what @There is A Moose at 3rd has to say about his 2017, but I'm skeptical about him.

Hosmer seems far more likely to go to Boston than Moose though. There really isn't a fit for Moose with Devers taking over 3B unless they slide him over to 1st, which may not be a bad idea.
