Fed has taken a wild card so things are definitely stirred up for me.

So let me get this straight. Fed hasn't played this event since 2011, so if he goes far he takes home all the points. Wonder if that can propel him back to #3.

yeah, the monte carlo tournament is weird. it's a masters 1000 tournament, but whatever points the player gets in it are applied as the "4th best" masters 500 result. right now, fed's 4th best under the 500s is what he just earned in davis cup (170 points). as long as he gets to at least the QF in monte carlo, he'll add points.

But MC IS A MASTERS 1000 Isn't it?!

yes, it counts as a 1000 tournament, but it's not mandatory like the other MS 1000 tournaments.

it has weird rules.

So why can't Fed earn points from rounds earlier than the QF ? I know he gets a bye in the first round and then he plays two rounds to get to the QF RIGHT? So he should just be able to add points from his second round match because he hasn't played the event last year since he is not defending any points.

anything less than QF earns under 170 points.

not sure how else i can explain this.

no matter his result in monte carlo, it will replace the 170 points he got for davis cup. that's all.

Fed got a good draw, I think. He's in Nole's half, and doesn't seem to have a lot that could bother him through the SF.

In Nadal's half, the only players I could see troubling him would be Wawrinka or Raonic...or maybe Dimitrov could give him a decent match if he could find a way through Ferrer.

Should be a fun tournament.

Nadal is playing possum again right before the clay swing. We think he is vulnerable and hurt, the media and other players think he is hurt, but he is gonna jump up like a spring chicken and run arround like a rabbit and get to the finals. I am glad Fed is playing good so far and can't wait to see the transition of his larger racquet game to the clay. Djoko is the guy to beat. He has both the patience and the game. To succeed on clay you have to be a cool headed guy and not a temperamental person. Its the grinder and the ugly work horse game that wins not the genius.

Think they are six hours ahead. so our 3am (EST) is like 9am for them. Not sure if they have both day and night sessions.

So I am guessing they start at 10:30 MC time. Ahead of EST BY SIX hours. The big dogs don't play till Wednesday I believe.
