I think you're 100% correct about him wanting to take the heat off himself.

That's an old coach's ploy. Teach the fan base..."You need me more than I need you."
Do the flirting...than make the grand tweet..."OSU for life" or whatever he wrote.

Everybody exhales and life goes on.

Eventually though, that wears out. It's gets old. Beating OU yearly won't guarantee
you a NC...but not being able to beat OU, will always keep you from playing for one.

OSU has to pick what they will settle for. Being OU's Daddy or being OU's bitch.

That is ridiculous. Do you think he sat there and said "I lost 3 games, what am I going to do. I got it. I will use mind manipulation and get Tennessee to offer me 8 million. That will get the heat off"

That's exactly what they do.

Read Rick Pitino's first book. He goes into detail on how to get a fan base off your ass.

He Vulcan mind tricked Tennessee?

He has been the best coach at OSU. He doesn't have people on his ass. This isn't Jimbo winning 5 games at FSU

Hell I don't know if it was his intent but it worked. I guarantee you none of us were bitching about the Camping World Bowl this morning

They did have a colossally disappointing season, and he was feeling a bit of the national media criticism.

He returned more talent than ever, and could not finish higher than 3rd place.

He got handled by anyone good he played, and came far closer than expected to 7th place than 1st place.

He needed this to happen in order to look good again.

I am not sure it was pre-planned, but it worked for him.

Could be worse. We could be on year 7 of a rebuild...

Gundy ain't all that. Vols should be happy he turned them down. Okie jr is another Missouri under Pinkel. They're better than average, but don't get over the hump. Gundy's been there 13 years and jr has had 'Phil Knight' type funding of the program. Bo Pleeny even beat Gundy (in stoolwater) in 2010. Gundy had been on the job for 6 years.
Okie jr should have been the one throwing around big money to find a new coach.

That's the consensus from the Oklahoma State fan base today.

Gundy had no intentions of taking the Tennessee job.
He's been given everything he has ever wanted at Oklahoma State.
He just wants to quiet everyone down about his 3 losses at Home this year.
You know, the year they were suppose to win everything with their Heisman Candidate QB, and their 3 First Round Draft Picks, and how great that schedule set up for them.

Didn't happen, now he has to eat crow, but he doesn't want to do that, so he goes and interviews for a job he he had no intention of taking, so the criticism will stop and the fan base will be glad he stayed.

But they don't feel that way.
They say he's a Little Man Bitch for doing it.

I tend to agree with them.

What is the general consensus.???

Okie State should calm down. They will always be 2nd fiddle to OU

Gundy should have left, so he could finally not be the red headed step child.

Why all the hatin?

Not hatin'. CFB needs the Gundy's and Pinkel's of the world. Bo pleeny needs to come back to a P5. Even with his 9 or 10 win ceilings, he could beat those guys.
In 13 years Gundy has only exceeded 10 wins twice. Bo pleeny beat him in Stoolwater in one of those. Bo pleeny's record against teams that finished with 9 or more wins was atrocious, but Gundy was one of them.

Would you want Gundy at USC?

I've never seen a school so obsessed with their little brother as Oklahoma. What gives with that? It doesn't even seem like a competitive rivalry.

No. Just told you pleeny beat him after Gundy had been on the job for 6 years. Gundy is not an elite coach.

I'd rather have given Mike Riley another 2 years than hire Gundy and live in purgatory for the next 10 years.

Not talking about one bowl game or even one season. Would you want Gundy as USC's coach for 13 years?

So you prefer Callahan and Riley? Yeah I doubt that

They were fired. And Gundy would have also, after 5 years at any blue-blood. They don't give a guy 13 years.
