I would never say zero. Especially up against a 4 or 5 loss conference champ.

But yeah, they'll need a 3 loss conference champ vying for that 4th spot IMO.

Based on anti-trust issues alone the committee needs to be careful omitting mid-majors. That's why they started letting mid-majors into the BCS. The mid-majors threatened law suits.

They've got their bases covered against Marshall when comparing to 1 or 2 loss P-5's + ND. 3 losses possibly, but 4 or 5 loss teams, they'd get sued.

They do need to absolutely dominate the rest of there games. If there is enough 2 losses teams the committee will feel real pressure to put them if they dominate.

Not beating one P-5 at all makes Marshall and the mid-major's case pretty weak.

I asked if they were considered one considering their lack of conference affiliation and the definition of a mid major.

And they absolutely have been.

Don't get me wrong. I think Marshall could beat the majority of mid-range P-5's right now. The problem is they won't have a chance to prove that like BYU did.
