Excuses for what? We played USC instead of Michigan St last year. This year instead of Michigan St we'll be playing Florida St - who is likely a preseason top5 team.

Btw, where is Michigan opening up their season this year? Surely it's not a neutral site game!

What are the odds Saban knew theres no way they were going to vote away a cupcake game so why not be the one decenting vote so he can say "i voted for another conference game". No way he didn't know it wasn't going to pass.

I hate it when a contest or series between two major programs gets cancelled (like Alabama vs Wisconsin of a few years ago), but I have to admit I'd much rather watch a game between Michigan & Notre Dame than one between Michigan & Arkansas. Even though I am a die-hard SEC fan, I always enjoyed watched ND-Michigan & ND-Michigan St. Those were almost always hard-fought, interesting games. Never cared much for watching most of the rest of their games, though.

By the same token, I'd rather watch an Arkansas-Oklahoma game than an Arkansas-Michigan game. Backyard rivalries tend to be more intense, even if they haven't been played on a regular basis.
