Melvin Gordon stinks. Jeremy Langford is great.

Langford looked good yesterday, as does every RB that plays against this Chargers defense. I'm not saying he's bad because I like what I saw from him yesterday, but this is a horrible run defense. Gordon needs to hold onto the football more, the fumbles are a problem. But he has a makeshift OL working in front of him which gets him hit behind the line a lot, and an OC who sucks.

It's tough to tell what Gordon is or isn't behind that OL.

Gordon to me is Robert Smith. He's a home run hitter that is going to need to run behind a line that creates creases for him to be successful.

Most people not from MN forget that Smith was considered a huge bust for a couple years he ran behind a pathetic OL. They improved the OL and the next thing he was a yearly 1000+ yard RB who went to the pro bowl a couple of times. Some RB's can survive and do OK behind bad OL's and still nudge out a couple yards a carry....home run hitters really struggle.

To be fair Bennett only busted because of injury. Had the talent. 2nd year in the league put up almost 1300 yards rushing and made the pro bowl. 3rd year was looking roughly the same but then was just hit with injury after injury after that and it sapped his speed.

And outside of that only really Dayne and maybe Ball are true busts.

If you take a RB in the 3rd - 7th round like all those other guys on that list, you know full well that there is less than a 25% chance of them ever developing into a legit starter.

That is what is funny about people who say never draft a RB early because you can get them easy in the later rounds. What they fail to look at is the sheer number of RB's taken later and how unlikely it is to be able to target the right RB later in the draft that is going to develop into a starter.

I think part of it is when Gordon is on the field the tendency is for the bolts to run. Then when it's a passing situation they bring in Woodhead and it makes them less predictable. So, until he is comfortable in the pass game and understands the entire offense, he's going to struggle.

Yep, the guy is a stud. I expect he will be the featured back next season considering Forte is in his last year of his contract.

That Bear's OL is starting to look like it did a couple years ago when Long first got on the scene. IMO the OL play has way more to do with it than Langford. I actually thought the other running back (Kadeem Carey) looked better running the ball than Langford did.
