From ESPN:

ESPN said:
Carmelo Anthony has decided to opt out of the final year of his contract with the New York Knicks and become an unrestricted free agent, according to multiple sources.

From USA Today:

USA Today said:
Carmelo Anthony will terminate the final year of his contract with the New York Knicks and become a free agent on July 1, a person familiar with the All-Star forward's decision told USA TODAY Sports.

USA Today said:
Anthony, who was scheduled to make $23.3 million next season, will have suitors lined up for his services — potentially the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat along with, of course, the Knicks.

Teams can began talking to free agents on July 1 and agree to terms but a deal cannot be officially signed until July 10.

The Knicks can offer Anthony the longest contract and most money — five years, $130 million from New York compared to four years and about $96 million from others.

Now the only question is who he is going to handcuff from winning a championship next.

Just hope he didn't do so to sign max deal with NY. I like the player but not for a 5yr max at his age and mileage.

Last I checked he's done nothing but make teams better.

Championship at Syracuse as a freshman....check
Took Denver from the shitter to the playoffs every year he was there.....check.
Got the NYK to the second round for the first time in almost a decade......check.

You might wanna worry about "the servant" playing better for OKC in the playoffs.

Melo is doing what Mercenaries do. They take part in a battle to whoever pays the highest price but is not concerned with the outcome.

Bingo, we have a winner. Look up "me first" player in the dictionary and his picture is there.

Yeah, that's the old edition, I saw the new one for players that still matter a couple days ago.

Melo's been the best scorer on his teams since he put on an NBA jersey. If it's not "me first" for him, then his team goes nowhere.
