some of the tightest owners in the game have a WS ring (Loria, Glass), but not one of the most free spending (Ilitch).

weird

Loria's title was won due to the Marlins fire sale.

From their trades after the 97 title they got:

Burnett
Penny
Derek Lee
Pavano
Mike Lowell
Juan Pierre (when they were still bad)

Not to mention they sucked so they were able to draft Beckett and A Gonz, and then trade Gonzo in the Urbina deal.

Plus they called up a kid named Miguel, plugged him into LF (where he hadn't really played before) and watched him help.

The Marlins can hit, though. I think they thought he'd be good enough.

Capps had injury issues and Naylor is blocked at 1B for the foreseeable future.

Thinking Cashner would be 'good enough' doesn't justify trading their #2 prospect for him. A below average pitcher in Cashner isn't even worth most teams' #5 prospect, let alone their #2.

It's not a stretch to think the Marlins could've either gotten a pitcher better than Cashner for Naylor, or traded an inferior prospect for Cashner and trade Naylor at some future point for a bigger return.

Maybe new ownership gets rid of those God awful colors and logo.

Rumor is the only reason they didn't cancel that entire trade was because they didn't have enough time to complete a deal of Naylor for Hellickson by then.

Either way if this is legit or not--please, please, please let the Pohlads be the next owners to sell. We need owners who care about more than making a buck up here and actually want to put a winner on the field.

If it gets rid of that gay ass sculpture that sits just past the center field wall, I'm all for it. That thing is an eyesore. Dan Uggla almost broke it with a home run once.

I don't quite get how or why this would torpedo the deal.

I just thought I'd post this here since it's a Loria thread.

No, that's fine.

An ESPN report said that if he does get the appointment, that the current buyers would back out.

Miami hosts the All-Star festivities this year. I guess that should entice a buyer to buy sooner rather than later to get that extra revenue.

Especially when a guy like Cashner struggles to give you innings. He's only reached 180 innings once and it took him 27 starts just to reach 131 innings in 2016. He averaged under 5 innings per start. Prior to 2016, he at least had decent FIP/xFIP marks. But last year, they were both north of 4.50.

Drew Stubbs actually caught a fly ball behind that thing. The LF came over and wondered if he was supposed to take a relay throw ... Stubbs was in no hurry to bring the ball out.
