well-deserved

:suds:

quietly took his team, week-by-week, from being a laughing stock non-contender to becoming a top-10, potential national champion.

and Narduzzi should sweep the country's best-assistant coach of the year in pollings for his killer D's.

Definitely deserved it.

Hard to ignore Urban Meyer rolling into the Big 10 and going 24-0 over 2 seasons and has yet to win the award. Crazy.

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill should be mentioned as well, although it would be tough to give the award solely to him as his coaching staff did an incredible job while he couldn't be on the sidelines with them on game day.

i'm not saying he hasn't been big 10 coach of the year, but potential national champion? what scenario could occur where they would be national champions?

He said "potential". MSU pulls out the win against Notre Dame earlier this year, and we'd have 2 undefeated teams in the Big 10 Championship game.

But hey, I guess "potential" means something very different for your 1 loss team..., right?

May as well chalk this thread up as being yet another pissing match of SEC greatness vs. everybody else that doesn't matter.

uh, lol. get defensive much there bro?

i interpreted it as they have current potential to win a national championship which they don't. auburn does. that's the difference.

When you look at how close their losses were last year, it wasn't that big of a turnaround. They have talent, just had to break in a new QB.

I agree with the B1G blog at ESPN that unless this award is about exceeding expectations, you've probably gotta give it to Meyer. Dude has won all 24 of his Big Ten games.

Jim Tressel won National Coach of the Year but never B1G COY despite winning 5 B1G championships including 4 in a row.

I'm a little surprised (and very happy) that they gave Chris Borland DPOY over Ryan Shazier. He was the best player, but you normally lose the award if you miss two B1G games, and Shazier put up monster numbers for an undefeated team.

Best player on Wisconsin maybe. That award rightfully belonged to Shazier in every measurable aspect.

:agree: Shazier got hosed. And of course so did Urban. What the hell does an Ohio State coach need to do to win Coach of the Year?

I'd like to congratulate Dantonio for winning more than 25 consecutive B1G games in a row.

Probably start the season unranked. Urban did exactly what everyone predicted he would do, go unbeaten, hence the pre-season ranking.

I know that's their reasoning. But that's complete bull shit. Go all the way back through JT's years. He won a National COY but still NEVER took home B1G COY award. So by the standards you suggest, Is Dantonio disqualified from now on?
