I'm pretty ambivalent about teo after seeing this on mlb.com

"His .741 OPS and 106 OPS+ (league average is 100) were among the lowest of his career for any of his full seasons played, including the COVID-impacted 2020, and his 31.1% strikeout rate was highest on the team and fifth-highest in MLB among 133 qualified hitters. Moreover, his home and road splits were stark, with a slash line of .217/.263/.380 (.643 OPS) at T-Mobile Park and .295/.344/.486 (.830 OPS) in away games."

we would've probably had to sign a long term contract for him and not just a 1 year qo, and i don't think he'd be worth 3 years for $50-$60 mill. Not with the trajectory of his numbers and the fact that we've signed so many FA to fat contracts only to have them be lazy or outright malinger here when they see the team is going nowhere.

on the other hand, who the fuck knows what this idiotic org will get to replace him.

as always, we're fucking nowhere.
Honestly, that is why I am surprised by the non QO. If he takes it, then we are only risking $20M total. We could still trade him at deadline in the worst case scenario or pickup a pick if he declined the QO. 90+ RBI is hard to replace. They should know that by now.

That’s where I’m at. Is it just doesn’t really make sense. I get not wanting his salary to be that high but now they are going to have to trade Miller or Woo to gets Teo’s replacement. Just seems they have holes and just create a new hole to fix the other ones

Not sure if that is good or bad for the health of the farm system. He is very old prospect isn’t he?

I think he is, but he is 24 so for a catcher not sure. But then again Harry Ford (20) should be ready real soon.

Dipoto said one of the reasons they didn’t offer a qualifying offer to Teoscar Hernandez is trying to find a way to cut down strikeouts in their lineup. They are looking for hitters, preferably right-handed hitters, that can provide offensive impact with less swing and miss.

Ideally, the right-handed hitter would play a corner outfield spot and he wouldn’t rule out more of a full-time DH if it addressed that need.

Per Jerry Dipoto, the Mariners had planned to move Stephen Vogt to a bench coach role before he was hired to manage the Guardians. They’d moved Tony Arnerich to bullpen coach and will look to add 2 more coaches to their MLB staff, including a hitting coach to join Jarrett DeHart

The Mariners have interest in bringing back Tom Murphy to tandem with Cal Raleigh. They know Murphy has interest in returning. But they also know that Murphy will generate interest from other teams as well. The possible late-season extension never really got far into the process.

Dipoto said that Marco Gonzales and Emerson Hancock are healthy and will report to spring training ready to go. They are still anticipating Robbie Ray to not return until after the ASB.

It still doesn't make any sense to me.

He's projected (per MLBTR) to get a contract around 4 years $80m. It's highly unlikely he would've accepted the qualifying offer.

I want to be optimistic and say that there must be something behind the scenes we don't know about, but really I just think they're being cheap.

I think my morale regarding the direction of this franchise might be at an all time low.

At this rate I wonder if we'll even extend guys like Kirby and Gilbert when that time comes.

I've seen a Soto trade mentioned a handful of times, but let's be realistic there is no way we will give him the extension he'll be worthy of so it would just be a rental on a team that even with Soto would be the third best in the AL West.

This was the first year I didn't attend a single Mariners game in person since I was an infant and I'm going to wear that as a badge of pride until this team shows me it's worth my money.

Cheap-cheap is the only logical explanation. LOL I said logical while talking about Mariners...

From the video: "Another name to throw out there is on the trade market because the Jays are not limiting themselves to free agents. They've also checked on some trade candidates, including Eugenio Suárez of the Seattle Mariners."

I feel like a couple of guys casually mentioned an interesting idea to swap Geno for George Springer a few weeks ago. PS, please don’t do that.
