Feels like we're gonna get a Phillies Astros rematch, I'd have to go Phillies then, Dusty already got his ring
I'd probably lean more toward Phillies but Harper can be hard to root for sometimes (I know, this coming from a fan of the Giants, who had Bonds for years). Also, I am a Dusty Baker fan (which seems rare amongst Giants' fans).

I am rather agnostic when it comes to Dusty. I don’t hate him, but I am also not really a big fan. He is almost Gabe-level new wave, and he wasn’t that great of a manager, imho. There really wasn’t much for me to grab hold of and be a fan of. AND his era as Giants manager took place when I was going to college on the other side of the country. I had access to AOL at the time, but the “internet” was different back then.

Indeed, the internet was different back then. I was still in high school in Fresno when he got hired and he seemed to help inject life into a staid team (although the new players seemed to help quite a bit). I do know that Baker is a bit odd in his managerial style but he seems to almost do the opposite of Kapler. Kapler's teams, thus far, have stayed at mediocre levels (outside of 2021, his career record would be 349-356). Baker, meanwhile, seemed to either be very lucky every time he landed with a new team or he knew how to get teams to win. Consider this:
Giants - 1992 - 72-90; 1993 - 103-59
Cubs - 2002 - 67-95; 2003 - 88-74
Reds - 2007 - 72-90; 2008 - 74-88
Nationals - 2015 - 83-79; 2016 - 95-67
Astros - 2019 - 107-55; 2020 - 29-31

Only the Reds and Astros saw a dip in performance from the season before he began to the season he began, but he won a WS with the Astros 2022 and the Reds won 91 games by 2010. I think his 840-715 record speaks to his abilities, but that is just my interpretation.

Has there ever been an all-Texas playoff series/game in any of the big-4?

Oilers/Cowboys/Texans? Mavs/Rockets/Spurs? Astros/Rangers?
Pretty sure not in the NFL (different conferences)

Pretty sure it's happened a lot in the NBA though.

Never baseball before (used to be different leagues)

Mavs and Spurs have met 6 times, the first being in 2001. Spurs lead 4-2.

Mavs and Rockets have met 3 times, the first being in 1988. Mavs lead 2-1.

Rockets and Spurs have met 4 times, the first being in 1980. Rockets lead 3-1

Giants seem to be leaning hard toward hiring a manager with no previous experience. Personally, I'd like to see Craig Counsell if the Brewers let him walk.

Just reading through a lot of that now myself.

While it believed they are looking for a first timer, I don’t know how much weight to place in that belief. They have essentially only done internal interviews to this point, which would make it appear that they are looking for a first timer. Let’s see who they bring in from the outside (Vogt and Eckler have both been rumored)

The Vogt interview is what is making me think that they are leaning hard toward a first timer. Yeah, the internal interviews don't mean much on their own. Most clubs have one or two of their own that they will give at least an impression of chance. But Vogt is not technically part of the organization right now. However, it could be argued that his interview came as a result of being part of the organization. Of course, the outside names so far attached to the Giants' search have all been those without previous experience. This is all rumor right now but the limited information we have seems to suggest that they are going in this direction.

I can see Gabe as a GM. He just doesn’t have the interpersonal skills required for the on-field job.

Varitek would be a great manager. I thought that when he was playing and he would be Bochy like.

Color me jaded, but I gotta believe any first time manager will relegate us to more FZ ball. I'd prefer to have someone with the bonafides to say 'this is how I want to run the team".....

Take this with a grain of salt as I believe the issue was more FZ than Kap, especially when watching the playoffs and seeing how far behind the talent curve the Giants are

Well, we may well have a new to the job manager unless the Giants pry away Melvin from the Padres. Everyone else on the rumored list have no experience.

Mark my words (and it‘s the internet, so they‘re etched in silicon), but a newbie will set us on another 5 year quest for a division title

Ron Wotus coached at Class-A Clinton (Iowa) in 1990 before managing in San Francisco’s minor league system for seven years from 1991-97. His clubs, ranging from Class-A to Triple-A, reached the playoffs in every year but one. He was twice named Manager of the Year, while posting an overall record of 554-412 (.574). Wotus was the manager of Class-A Advanced San Jose Giants (1991-92), Double-A Shreveport Captains (1993-95) and Triple-A Phoenix Firebirds (1996-97). He was named California League Manager of the Year in 1991 after leading San Jose to a 92-44 record. In 1997, he was named Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year after the Firebirds finished 88-55, winning 41 of their final 51 games. Wotus became the Giants Third Base Coach in 1998 under manager Dusty Baker and served as Bench Coach from 1999-2017 under Baker, Felipe Alou and Bruce Bochy.

He is the one.

I'd love to see him get the nod but he seems buried under all these other candidates. In fact, he is hardly mentioned in rumors.

We've got rumors about another external candidates with no major league managing experience, Bill Haselman:

Shea at least mentions both Wotus and Craig Counsell (who would be my favorite candidate).
