I loved Maclin but not for $11 mil/ per yr like KC signed him for.

That's what they cost. You can't have a top 5 guy because you aren't drafting one in the top 10 of the draft. So Maclin is the type of WR that produces in all systems, can do all things, and gets paid accordingly. The Chiefs are way better off paying Maclin 11 rather than paying nothing for no wide receivers.

Maclin is good but not at $11 mil. Use that to get better on D. Chip's system apparently can make everyone rich as Djax, Shady and Maclin all had their best years with him and got paid. I doubt they have the same production in their new teams systems.

The last I heard was that our offer topped out at $10M. Haven't heard anything about guaranteed $$, but looks like he was chasing a marginally higher payday here.

If he really wanted to come back here as much as he claimed, he would have.

What's the point of having the cap room if you don't spend it? I'd rather have Maclin than $11m sitting unused next season.

It's embarrassing how stupid a lot of eagles fans are about the cap.

I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or insulting me.

Ah sorry man. I agree with you!

I thought Chip was sort of smart so I thought he would have franchised Maclin, but I was wrong.

He's agreeing with you.

The myth of salary cap hell is kinda his thing.

Well salary cap hell can be real. It's just really easy to high five Satan and get back out there spending again.

Why would he franchise him for almost 13 million a year? When he didn't want to pay him 11 million a year that he was asking for but offered him 9 million instead?

Just because you apply the tag doesn't mean he would sign it. It just gives you control over your asset, rather than letting it walk for nothing.

Not applying the tag to Maclin was poor asset management.

Nope think he's on the way to the 49ers anyways. Would rather have Crabtree or A Johnson. Think we draft a WR early again this year.

Chip probably likes Crabtree but I'd take a shot at AJ. Either is better than Smith.

I'm taking a wait and see on receiver ... I don't think Maclin's worth 11 mil per year, but we still need to replace him with a solid option. You can't just throw Josh Huff in there and move on.

This is an ole adage that goes back to Reid's early days. Some fans make excuses for anything the FO does, and avoiding cap hell (which we have NEVER been in) is always one of the popular ones for not putting the best team possible on the field. You have to overpay at some point for key players that put you over the top. We did it in 2004 when we brought in an unnamed WR and J. Kearse. We made it to the SB to. You can't get to the SB with the youngest average age in the league. And I doubt that you can get there by having the most players on the team that went to Oregon either. I loved moving on past Reid, and I fully support Chip for now. But I'm not going to say that certain things he has done (and is doing) don't concern me. I sincerely hope he puts my fears to rest, and has a plan beyond what the appearances show so far.

Maclin was never a #1, and wasn't worth 9mil, lone less 11 mil. He played on a 1 year deal, and was the most motivated he had ever been. Cooper was not worth the payday he got either. We seem to have a history of Coaches that think you can play in the most pass happy time of the league, and not need quality receivers. And if they don't think that the top receivers don't come with a little diva syndromes or drama, they are fooling themselves.
