Seahawks hope former No. 2 overall pick Luke Joeckel can help fix O-line
at first blush this is great news

I think great might be a little too optimistic. But I do think it is a good risk/reward situation. 8 million isn't chump change and Joeckel carries a significant injury history.
Plus he hasn't played well since being in the league. However he's young and still has potential, like this a whole lot better then lasts year OL signings.
That contract is terrible. Why not throw down a longer deal with a little more for a better player?
Zeitler for 12.5 would have been much better
Zeitler signed for 5 years and 60 million. That's a HUGE committment. $31 million in guaranteed money.
Even using your dubious logic, he cost 50% more than Joeckel.
The Seahawks don't have a ton of free cap space. Tossing big money at one position of the line doesn't make much sense.
Oh and Zeitler is a guard

we don't know how the contract is structured yet though. Could be incentive-laden.That contract is terrible. Why not throw down a longer deal with a little more for a better player?

Uh, he's already had 2 season ending injuries...
