I think great might be a little too optimistic. But I do think it is a good risk/reward situation. 8 million isn't chump change and Joeckel carries a significant injury history.

Plus he hasn't played well since being in the league. However he's young and still has potential, like this a whole lot better then lasts year OL signings.

That contract is terrible. Why not throw down a longer deal with a little more for a better player?

Zeitler for 12.5 would have been much better

Honestly his play wasn't as bad as what we had at the edge last year. It was disappointing because he was drafted to be the anchor of the line for years to come. None of us expect that. Just mediocre to competent play would be a huge upgrade.

Zeitler signed for 5 years and 60 million. That's a HUGE committment. $31 million in guaranteed money.

Even using your dubious logic, he cost 50% more than Joeckel.

The Seahawks don't have a ton of free cap space. Tossing big money at one position of the line doesn't make much sense.

Oh and Zeitler is a guard

Depends on how you look at it. Do you think we need a 12 million per year guard? Who does he replace? Seems to me we need depth on the interior. The edge was what killed us.

Dont we have fant?

Ummm, yes? I like Fant's story and I think he has the athleticism to perhaps be a good LT. But he was a train wreck last year. Granted not as much of a train wreck as the RT shit show we had.

Uh I'll give this an average grade. He's a mediocre LT who hasn't done much in Jax and got a one year prove it deal. I usually give one year prove it deals an A or A+ but not at 8M per.

Seattle was desperate for a LT, the NFL agents knew it, and adjusted their price accordingly.

If it works out great, but Seattle has hardly solved their offensive line woes.

<Edit>

Is there such a thing as a bad one year deal? Plus, we don't know what the guarantee is yet.

we don't know how the contract is structured yet though. Could be incentive-laden.

I think having play RT would be a good upgrade over what we already have like someone already mentioned we need tackles not guards. He is still young so maybe the coaching staff can still mold him into something more effective. Its not like the coaching staff in jacksonville has done a great job with any of their players I always thought they had some young talented players and yet could not win more than 3 games in a weak division.

I like the signing. Zero long term risk. I was hoping the Cards might make a run at him. He played a lot better once he was moved to the inside. He was a poor tackle but a pretty decent guard.
