And that doesn't NOT make it RACIST

Once again......there is an ASSUMPTION being made that these black players are all would be criminals. That's OBVIOUS

It IS about race. The image problem doesn't exist if all these players are white!

Now that's where I disagree because you're making it race - the politician pointed to the NBA in general. Now I would be interested in knowing what he saw and heard to bring him to that conclusion and what he thinks the NBA is supposed to do about it becaus the last time I checked a man is innocent until proven guilty - so it is not the responsibility of the NBA to do anything. The NFL has just had as many problems and I expect he is a die hard football fan considering the geographic are he represents and would be surprised if he has ever watched a basketball game

So now anytime someone criticizes the NBA - that means, they are racist now?

He isn't criticizing the NBA. There is no problem in the NBA with players and arrests. He made statements because he assumes a league full of black men, if folded, would lead to an exponential increase in the crime rate.

HE said that. HE made that statement because the league is full of black men.......you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

That is CLEAR racism.

That's the most racist thing here. Of course it would.

The image is what it is because the NBA earned that image.

Yup, nope, that is still racist.

Its hard to explain stuff to people that don't want to really see it. The guy is probably in all likelihood a racist. Just because he did not mention race doesnt mean thats not what he was talking about. Welcome to the new racism where people like to speak in code so they can get their message across without there being any hard evidence of racism offered.

Welcome to pathetic wastes of life playing the race card when race has literally zero impact whatsoever.

You are a far worse human being than a racist.

And because the tweet was from a white person, the ASSUMPTION is made that it's racist. If Bill Cosby had tweeted the same thing, no one would call it racist.

And the image problem doesn't exist if the NBA doesn't have a past history of drug use and crime and if players aren't doing thing like the infamous Iverson "we talkin' 'bout practice" rant.

Given that the NFL (also mostly black) actually seems to have a crime rate that's higher than the societal average, would you consider it a racist tweet since there would be information to back it up?

I know right? I was really trying to find a way that he wasn't being a bigot. As I started writing it though I realized there really is no way to look at that with out him coming out as at best a bigot, most likely he is a high ranking member of the Neo Nazi movement.

First, if Cosby said that there would be ridiculous outrage, probably more so. He was an icon for progression, he would probably receive the benefit of the doubt however and then he would explain how he wasn't being a bigot towards NBA players or the youth that play or watch basketball. Unlike Rep Douche who confirmed his bigotry when asked to explain himself.

Next, you pick 1 kind of bad apple in the history of the NBA, there have been others, but if people are going to judge an entire sport and the people who enjoy that game by AI then they are ignorant and hypocritical to a point it is impossible to think they aren't racist.

If someone were ignorant enough to make that claim about any sport bigotry should be an assumption.

Even if this isn't racism it is still bigotry against the youth. Who plays sports? Who watches the NBA? Younger people than any other sport. The NBA is also considered a "black man's game" direct quote of Larry Bird. He isn't wrong. The players are mostly black, the stars are mostly black (as opposed to football where the stars (QBs) are mostly white, and they are even taking actions to make QBs even bigger stars with rules limiting D and hits to the QB, I could make the argument that the NFL in itself is racist).

Only MLS and the X games have a younger average age of viewers, and we already know that youth play sports, not old people.

Consider the average age of viewers of TV's major sports events - JSOnline

Actually, if Cosby said it, there wouldn't be ridiculous outrage. Cosby has spoken out many times against young black men presenting the very image that NBA players promoted before they began to work to change that image. Cosby has criticized everything from the way young black men tend to dress to the way they talk.

As for the Iverson video, it is the image that many people have of the NBA and it's players whether we NBA fans like it or not and whether it is accurate to today's NBA or not. I'm not saying it's fair, but the media blew it out of all proportion and to this day, it still gets played and referenced a lot which feeds the image.

End of the day, whether the bonehead who made the tweet is truly a racist or not, it doesn't change the fact that this is the image many people have of the NBA. Are you suggesting that everyone who holds this image of the NBA is a racist? What about people who don't particularly like basketball? Do we assume they are racist for not liking a game that's played by mostly black players?

Worrying about whether or not some politician's tweet is racist or not seems much easier than actually addressing the NBA's image problem.

You can tell yourself that until you are blue in the face. Unless you walk in another's persons shoes you probably would be best served by not claiming race has no impact. It may not impact you is about the best you can say.

LMAO. So let me get this right.......a player complaining about getting questioned on his practice habits is an image of thuggery and crime? REALLY?

And then you try to claim this is NOT racist? Seriously?

You guys can come up with every excuse in the world. But the man made the statements, I didn't. He flat out stated that if you put these NBA players on the street, of which the vast majority are black, that crime would go up.

He is directly calling them all criminals. Not some. Not a few.......he is calling them ALL CRIMINALS.

Now, the question is, WHY? The most obvious answer is, because they are black. Why do we make this assumption? Because there is NO EVIDENCE to support any other conclusion. The NBA doesn't have a problem with tons of players getting in trouble.

So until you can change this very real bottom line, everything else you have to say is justifying the base racism that is clearly evident in this man's statement. I have no interest in Bill Cosby, or any other rationalization you try to put out there.

DEAL WITH the statement he made, and try to convince me, with logic and reason, WHY its not racist - as you've convinced yourself. Because right now, I see no evidence that it's not.

Huge difference between saying that young men need to be proud and educated and present themselves accordingly than to say if the NBA shut it's doors the crime rates would skyrocket as an insinuation they are delinquents with money.

NFL actually has a higher crime rate than the US average, NBA a lot lower. The NBA has a lot more black stars, the NFL has mostly white stars and they continue to aid the white stars aka QBs. NBA shows a lot of tattoos, NFL not so much. NFL is a dangerous sport that causes permanent brain damage that the league covered up for years. The NBA is infinitely safer as a sport.

Despite all of that the NBA has an image problem and the NFL does not. Explain that.

Because the NBA management is a joke and the NFL is slightly less of one?

Image is the result of PR and the NBA is awful at it. Race is not a factor.
