No real reason to take Brown or Gabby, unless we made them a deal to do so, I'm sure they got flooded with offers to take bad contracts.....

Most "experts" think McNabb or Lewis will be gone.
No chance of VGK taking Brown or Gaby

That's what I think. Lewis is strong character guy. To put a silver lining on things though, the Kings would free up $2mil in cap if they took Lewis. But Lewis is one of my favorite players and I would not want to lose him.

Lewis would be a big loss, McNabb is replaceable IMO

Agreed. I'm not the biggest McNabb fan. I think he is too slow for the evolving NHL. He is a pretty big hitter, which is nice, but he doesn't bring too much else. I would rather keep Lewis.

I would think the only scenario where Vegas takes Brown is if LA super incentivized them to do so (Give them picks etc.). Other teams keep getting rumored to have already done so.

Blue Jackets reportedly deal 24th overall pick to Vegas

I saw these rumors on certain pages on Instagram, but rumors are that Vegas might already have 3-4 First Round Picks already lined up. If that's true, then they are off to more than a nice start.

I'm not even sure what could be offered or what has true value right now. Should be very interesting to watch the next few days/weeks though.

That Blue jackets article seems like a pretty accurate assessment. A ton players unprotected, and they feel as though they want to keep their core intact.

Anyone see that the Islanders protect 5 defensemen?
Ducks leave Vatanen on the table?
Preds willing to gamble on 1 year left on James Neal's contract?

Gotta be more Expansion deals in place for Vegas. They'll own a ton of 1st and 2nd round picks for the next couple years.

Arizona protected Luke Schenn!?!!?!?
That makes me feel a whole lot better about the overall Kings' roster and depth.

Please don't take my 11th best player Vegas. I will give you a first round pick if you take my 12 th best player instead.

The drop off from 11th best player to 12th best must be huge.

Expansion Draft Buzz: Vegas ready to put trade talk into action

Who do the Islanders need to protect? I sincerely do not know that much about the Islanders, but giving up a 1st to protect is pretty huge. That's looking like at least 3 First Round Picks for the Knights so far. Article says there are at least 6 trades in place already, so there may be more.

This lead me to ask: "What the most First Round Picks ever?". Per some Reddit, I found this:

The most number of 1st round draft picks in one year by one team was 5, done by the Montreal Canadiens in 1974. The Canadiens selected Cam Conner at #5, Doug Risebrough at #7, Rick Chatraw at #10, Mario Trembley at #12, and Gord McTavish at #15.

Tied for second are 4 teams who picked 4 players in a single 1st round:

  • NY Islanders, 1999: Tim Connolly (5), Taylor Pyatt (8), Branislav Mezei (10), and Kristian Kudroc (28)
  • Colorado Avalanche, 1998: Alex Tanguay (12), Martin Skoula (17), Robyn Regehr (19), Scott Parker (20)
  • Montreal Canadiens, 1972: Stephen Shutt (4), Michel Larocque (6), Dave Gardner (8), John Van Boxmeer (14)
  • Boston Bruins, 1970: Reginald Leach (3), Richard Macleish (4), Ronald Plumb (9), Robert Stewart (13)

Somewhat surprised, considering what is available and that a player like McNabb can easily be found on the open market. Would have thought Vegas takes Lewis and builds around him, perhaps even given the C.

I wouldn't trade a 4th round pick to keep McNabb.

I think we're all pretty happy Lewis is staying. I too think McNabb is replaceable, but he's also a solid pickup for Vegas. They actually had him at the NHL Awards show last night when his name was announced, and he's the first player to ever wear the Vegas jersey, so that's pretty cool for him. I think that's a good fit.

Honestly, so far, this has been a pretty smooth summer for LA. Toffoli and Pearson contracts dealt with early (And reasonably) and only losing McNabb to Expansion. Hope the draft goes smoothly and we get a better/cleaner look at the Kings cap options for Free Agency.
