Dylan Fosnacht of Rochester High School throws 194 pitches in 14 innings - ESPN

A high school baseball player in Washington State threw 194 pitches over 14 innings Tuesday before being removed in the 15th inning of his team's eventual 1-0 victory in its district tournament.

Amazing feat for anyone to do. The big story is why would a coach let a high school kid throw that many pitches. There are solid arguments from both sides of the fence.

The kid apparently said he does not have a collegiate or pro future in baseball so he is not worried about his arm in the long run. (somewhere in his twitter) He said the coaches checked on him every inning to see how he was doing and he was feeling fine when they pulled him still.

The other side is that the coach should be more responsible than letting a kid put that much stress on his arm. That many pitches (combine that with warm up pitches between 14 innings and pregame) is very demanding on an arm. Even if he doesn't have a baseball future, putting a teenager at risk for an injury to win is wrong. Baseball coaches know these things and should be much smarter about looking out for these guys. He wouldn't start him in back to back games of a double header normally so why let him throw that many pitches in 1 game?

If the other coach was so concerned about his arm he could have always forfeited the game after the 9th.
