...Actually, one could argue that the manager is partially responsible for this loss. After all, Matsuz's splits this year have "left-handed specialist" written all over it:
Vs. left: 2.11 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 0.658 OPS against
Vs. right: 6.20 ERA, 1.82 WHIP, 0.981 OPS against.

(The same general trend was observed in 2012-13 as well. My suggestion is simply this: Either use Matusz EXCLUSIVELY against lefties, or trade him.)

matusz is a loogy . we never gave britton the chances as oh jake , hernandez , matusz and then all the old trash we put in front of zach .

Can't disagree with the idea of giving Jimenez's spot in the rotation to Gonzalez... However, to be fair, we would have lost even if Jimenez had given up only one run. As much as I hate to say this, the idea of playing Jimenez less could just as easily be applied to Davis (0.609 OPS in August), Jones (0.591 OPS in August), and possibly other hitters.

Overall, this past week could have been better... but going 3-2 still raised the team's win percentage marginally. Plus, the division lead has actually increased by 2 games, and the O's are now only 2 games behind Oakland.

Bottom line: The overall trend still looks good. As crazy as this might sound, the question right now might not be reaching the postseason at all, but rather fighting for home advantage throughout the playoffs.
