Assuming he's dressing for the game, he has to start right? There's too much risk for him coming off the bench. If we bring him in and his hamstring blows up we just burned 2 subs.

or if you start him, something goes wrong early, you waste an early sub....
at least with Jozy off the bench, you still have the option whether to put him in or not(most likely shortened minutes)
Problem is, Jozy isn't really a guy you bring off the bench. He's the guy you want starting the game because he gives you the opportunity to hold the ball and dictate the pace. Johanssen is the guy you bring off the bench late in the game specifically for his finishing ability.
well yes, when healthy Jozy is that guy.
I was factoring in his health and leg injury for the time being... obviously he's the starter when healthy.
unless he is 100% healthly this will be a hard decision for Klingsman. for the reasons people already mentioned. you Start him you don't know how long he could go which means might lose an early sub which is never good. And IF he is on the bench the US might find themselves down and I don't see Belgium letting up a lead
The US can not get behind early in this game. Belgium are too sound defensively and we don't play the possession game well enough to count on unlocking them.
Exactly. So I am thinking he will start but can the US afford a semi-healthy Altidore our there? They need to be on their game from start to finish
Depends on how healthy he is. At 80-85% his presence and ability to hold the ball make him a game changer by themselves. However if he's only 65-75% he's dead weight.
I'm wondering if we as fans will ever know how healthy he is.... and we may never know
Doubtful. Only person who knows is Klinsman and the training staff.
and to an extent I don't like that... Because IF he does not perform well or does something stupid all we will hear about was, "oh, he wasn't healthy... we really shouldn't have put him in, etc etc."
It's all part of playing the game. Throwing Belgium off.
