James Franklin getting $4.25M from PSU?

I know I'm late on this, but I never would have thought he would get this much. He really hasn't done anything great, it's not like Vandy won their conference, or a BCS bowl or something.

Penn St made a huge mistake, with respect to pay anyways. I think he's going to be a flop.

He did well enough, but he did sort of benefit from scheduling and a historically bad UT.


In 3 years, he beat exactly two SEC bowl eligible teams (injury ravaged Georgia in 2013, 6-6 Ole Miss in 2012, and none in 2011).


Its still impressive to get 9 wins at Vandy, but there really isn't a lot of stand out wins.

Essentially he beat the SEC bottom feeders and OOC cupcakes.
But in years past Vandy was not a sure thing to even beat the creampuffs.

So, it is a little difficult to accurately judge Franklin simply on the (W-L).

So far I'd say he's worth it. He's dominating the Buckeyes in recruiting (currently #2/#3 2015 class), just need to see how that translates on the field.

I don think anyone ever questioned his recruiting chops. I think he is a great recruiter and motivator. I do question his Xs and Os ability. He was very unpopular choice with Texas fans during the search as many considered him to be very similar to Mack.

Not sure. Could be John Cooper, could be Mack. I think he brings enough talent to compete for Big 10 titles, not sure he is a guy that will win many. I do not see him as a guy that will be a disaster.

I remember Turner Gill was being praised as the next great head coach just b/c he went 8-6 at Buffalo one year. KU hired him then fired him after his 2nd year. Turner Gill went 5-19. Somehow someway, KU still had to pay Gill $10M for sucking so bad and even had to hit up for donations from their boosters in order to pay off Gill. How many other Vandy coaches won back to back bowl games let alone been in back to back bowls? Scrub ones or not he did what no other could. For the record he went to 3 straight.

I know we don't know how he'll do yet but the guy has proven to be a great recruiter and looking ahead to the 2015 class it looks like he's wasting no time proving it. We shall see about the X's and O's.

On top of that, have you seen PSU's recruiting ranking? It's like nothing ever happened there.

3rd in 247's composite with the next best in the B1G being Nebraska at 11.

Karma doesn't exist in college football. Money and corruption takes precedent.

I still firmly believe they should have gotten the death penalty. That university doesn't deserve the privilege of fielding a D1 football team.
