"I" think that BB will have Josh McDaniels as his OC no matter where he goes. He knows Josh and Josh knows BB. Success in the past does not guarantee success in the future but half of the team will be in good hands.

As was stated on Zolack and Bertrand this morning, the entire Belichick staff has been let go.

That doesn't mean that some of them won't be back. Mayo and Steve Belichick had a great working relationship handling the defense even with BB's constant input and pressure. Possible 50/50 that Jerod will hire SB as the DC.

The offense is complete mystery. No one knows for sure who JM may know or where he'll be coming from. Pros, college? There are a million college OCs that are chomping at the bit to make the big move up. My guess is that the OC will be around the same age as Mayo.

The more I think about the hiring of Mayo the more I like the choice.

It's a smart move by Kraft. Even if Mayo fails the fans and players won't turn oh him. He's a good teamate and very well liked by players and coaches.
Congrats and good luck Jerrod.

Next step now is finding a decent GM or personell guy.

Greg Bedard was all over the Krafts for not at least bringing in some other guys to interview and pick their brains. Finally, Phil Perry asked him how many teams he'd owned and how much he actually knew about running a team. Then Tom Curran said, "This is exactly why we, the sports media, are turning away fans. For once, the Kraft made a definite step forward and didn't wait until the last minute. " Then Bedard went into defensive mode and said he was just suggesting that they actually moved too fast. No Greg, You were trying to be first pointing out that the Patriots were able to skip over the CBA and the Rooney Rule.

Conflicting reports about BOB. One says that the entire staff including him have been fired. The other says that nobody has been fired. Can't find anything official either way. Some spitballing:

Possible offensive coordinators

Josh McDaniels

McDaniels has a storied history with the Patriots as their OC and a forgettable history as a head coach in his own right. Robert Kraft knows the positive side of McDaniels’ coaching career though, with his work with Tom Brady and contributions to Super Bowl titles. And, fans in the New England area don’t have nearly as bad a taste in their mouths as fans west of the Mississippi do when they think of his coaching prowess.

Arthur Smith

Smith was hired by the Falcons due to his work helping Ryan Tannehill put together strong offensive seasons with the Titans, which included playoff runs. He was let go by the Falcons, but still has a good overall reputation as an OC.

Frank Reich

Reich is an interesting candidate due to his OC work with the Eagles during their Super Bowl win and head coaching experience. Since Mayo is a rookie, bringing in a seasoned veteran like Reich could be a useful move and Reich doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would covet more “power.”

Bill O’Brien

O’Brien returned to the Patriots OC job in 2023 and they won four games with Mac Jones and Baliey Zappe at the helm. It would be seen as a bad move keeping him, but the “Patriot Way” is something that could stick with Mayo in there.

Joe Brady*

Brady was a fresh offensive mind who joined Matt Rhule’s staff at Carolina after his successful run at LSU. That job didn’t work out for anybody, so Brady ended up in Buffalo as the quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator. He might be hard to pull away from Buffalo, but the Patriots will need some fresh blood on offense and Brady might want the challenge of developing a star rookie quarterback.

Whoever Mayo chooses for offensive coordinator and quarterback will tell us a lot about the direction he wants to take the team offensively and philosophically. Do they stick with the old guard in McDaniels or God-forbid, Bill O’Brien? Do they end up with Jayden Daniels, a QB who needs an offense that allows his rushing ability to shine or Drake Maye, who will work behind the line of scrimmage most often?

Possible Defensive Coordinators

Steve Belichick*

Steve and Jerod have worked together running the Patriots defense with neither being name the DC. They've actually become very tight and both have said that they 'love' working with the other. Steve does not want to go where his father goes and neither does his brother. As of Friday, Steve appeared to have the inside track to officially become the Patriots DC.

Ben Johnson

Johnson is the DC in Detroit and his contract is up.

Bobby Slowick

Slowick is the DC in Houston and his contract is up.

Sounds like the typical exchange found here...

On offense, I have no clue - yet.
On defense, Steve B has done a good job with good teamwork with Mayo and I'd like to see that continue.....

The bitchers are already starting to bitch about the Krafts not interviewing more candidate for the HC position.

Tom Giles made the perfect response on BST Friday and said, "How about allowing the man to get a chair in his office?" I agree 100%.
If you already have a negative attitude, you'll pick apart everything he does until you finally find a nugget to rest your case on.

There will be a press conference on Wednesday 1/17/24. Mayo will be formerly introduced. Questions will be taken and answered. The bitchers will certainly be trying to make themselves heard.

Mayo had Tem Lukabo, Carolina's OL Coach in yesterday for an interview for the DC position.

Albert Breer says that both Brian and Steve Belichick have been offered positions with the Patriots. Steve will formally interview for the DC .

The OC position is open and interviews will be held. BOB is in the mix. So is Josh if he decides to move back to MA.

No matter what, the NFL rules and CBA require that any team hiring a head coach MUST interview two minority candidates from OUTSIDE the present organization and those nterviews MUST be IN PERSON. The second rule is that no interviews can take place until AFTER the Wildcard Playoff round.

If everyone follows the rules, interviews will start on Tuesday Jan. 16, 2024. If the Patriots follow the rules to the letter, expect them to announce their next head coach no earlier than Thursday afternoon, most likely, Friday afternoon.

I doubt it matters if you hire a minority candidate.

Two things that I had read a lot last week was that;
1) after Mayo received an offer to interview for a HC position last year it was written into his and maybe Belichick's contract as well that Mayo would be the next head coach after either a) Belichick left or b) after the '24 season.
And
2) this or these contracts were reviewed by the NFL and NFLPA and ok'd

A missing "B" maybe.

Then again, who gives a shit about the man, it's more important to point out a typing error.

This forum is going to hell in a handbasket.

Maybe proofread your post before you post Mr Book Writer.
