Sucks for the guy, but that's life. Him being "drafted" is an insult to all the guys who gave it their all AND remained healthy enough to have a chance at getting legitimately drafted.

In the real world people get hurt and sick every day. Often times this leads to serious financial stress for them and their families. They aren't recognized and rewarded. No medals are given out.
Heartless? No. Just telling it like it is. Hell, I even said sucks for him. He isn't special, though. No more than you or I.
MLB teams have done this in the past. Just last season the Dbacks drafted a local ASU player who was paralyzed while stealing 2nd in a game. It's just a way to pay respect to a player who has worked hard his whole life to realize a dream & because of an unfortunate diagnosis that he had zero control over, he couldn't live out his dream. Unlike in baseball where the teams use actual draft picks, the NBA just "ceremonially" drafted him. It cost no team anything. And it doesn't negatively affect any player
BTW, "in the real world", people get ceremonial awards, certificates, or keys to the city all the time for doing or achieving less than what Austin has done.
The Bucs did it in the NFL with Eric LeGrande and his spot actually counted as a draft pick.
No, they don't.
What has Austin done btw? Play basketball for a free education and contract a disease? Why should he be honored and not my neighbor with terminal cancer who was a Vietnam vet?
