Is Woolen already considered a shut down CB?

I love the success he is having because I called it when he was drafted lol yep I patted my own back. You guys have all been there I am sure. That one guy in the draft that you want more than anyone else because your gut is telling you he will be a superstar. I saw superstar all over him and was BEGGING for us to draft him. We drafted him and I said thats one side fixed for the next 5+ years

One of the most egregious errors I've seen made on this site. I recommended to Harold you be banned but he was sympathetic.

The fact you've now admitted to this months after the fact does count for something.... but I'm watching you Anointed......

The "downside" to this thread is to note that we need a serious upgrade at #2 CB. For all of the preseason hope for Mike Jackson and Bryant, neither have really stepped it up. Maybe Brown can get back to that level but they seem to be bringing him back a bit slowly so far.

Brown was not that good last year before he got hurt, I don't know why people talked about him like he did great. Still I think he can be a ok starter but Jones out played everyone last year as far as CB play but never really got back on the field much after last season.

While I'm sure we could use an upgrade at corner, the surest way to improve our corner play is to improve our pass rusher, which remains wildly inconsistent.

As per Athletic...

Woolen has 12 passes defensed, tied for fourth among cornerbacks. Among cornerbacks with at least 150 coverage snaps, he ranks third in passer rating allowed (52.8), according to Next Gen Stats. He’s second in hawk rate (23.5), which tracks the percentage of targets the nearest defender makes a play on the ball. Woolen is one of the best and most productive cornerbacks in the NFL.

BTW, Michael-Shawn Dugar, the Athletic writer provided this information...

Sauce is third in hawk rate at 23.4 percent, so he's basically right there with Tariq.

Sauce leads all CBs with 15 passes defensed.

Sauce is 6th in passer rating allowed (min. 150 coverage snaps).

Sauce has two interceptions this year.

Sauce and Tariq are neck-and-neck in yards allowed per coverage snap (0.9).

Sauce has given up 2 TDs. Tariq has given up 3 (tho I think he's still getting blamed for Julio's TD, which is inaccurate).

Woolen is tied for the league lead in interceptions. He has not allowed more than 57 yards in a game this season, averaging 31.8 yards allowed per game, according to TruMedia. The shine has worn off a bit, but Seattle could not ask for more out of their fifth-round pick.

It is just remarkable how much Woolen is getting slagged because the Seahawks defense is struggling.

I think the PFF grades are best with the skill position guys. Secondary grades are their worst. Line play is a little bit of a mixed bag.
to back you up on this, PFF has ryan neal as the #4 safety in the league. I like the guy but not that much.

Yeah that's just silly. He's been pretty good but nowhere near a top 5 safety.

PFF seems to put more and more emphasis on penalties. Ryan Neal has none this year... Woolen is 72 rated (I think he's close to 80) BUT he has 5 penalties this year - 3rd most on the team.

That said, I'd say at least 2 of Woolen's flags never should've been thrown... the other two leading the team are surprise surprise Cross/Lucas, and they've had a few bad calls this year too. Eh rookies are gonna get picked on, unless you have a cool nickname like Sauce, and play for a major market (Sauce only has a couple but holy shit that guy is grabby in some of the games I've watched - he should have 5 flags and Woolen should have 2)...

6 INTS is incredible and should make him a lock, but they will give it to gardner because he was a high pick and has all the hyp.e

Honestly I think it will come down to the end of the season. It's pretty tight. But if Woolen gets 2 or 3 more picks this year, ESPECIALLY given how rarely they throw at him, he's gonna win it.

6 sacks (32nd in the NFL) isn't that much for a DE pass rush specialist so I can't see Aidan having a shot... However, 6 INT's is tied for the lead in the NFL... Woolen has the edge with Sauce right behind him... I don't see Aidan that close to those two...

Ultimately it's going to boil down to how they all play to finish the season. If Woolen gets 2 or 3 more picks, I think he's a lock to get DPOY. If he doesn't then it gets dicier.

The jets game COULD be the deciding factor. Maybe Geno can do a solid and throw a couple dimes on mr gardner

See how Gardner likes getting tossed around like a rag doll by DK.

Oh come on he doesn't get tossed around, don't just hate on a guy because he plays someplace else. I would give my left nutt to Have Gardner as our other CB with Woolen lol. Now that I am in dream land with woolen and Gardner I might as well throw in Hamilton who is the Highest graded safety in 2022 ... That backend could be better than any we have ever had. HEY DONT WAKE ME UP! I wanted every one of those players!
