How many coaches have won a SB with more than one particular QB?

I think Parcells is one.

Joe Gibbs won with 3 different QBs. Don't think any other coach holds that claim.

I also do not think he cheated by taping other team's signals and then all of a sudden calling the right defensive calls in the second half of games.

You know. Like Belishit did.

He's one of them for sure.. not only winning SBs with 3 different QBs but none of them will ever sniff the HOF. SB winning QBs who are not in, or won't make, the HOF is a pretty short list and he's done it 3 times.

Gibbs doesn't get the recognition that he deserves. Winning 62% of the reg season over 10 years and 17-7 in the playoffs with 3 SB wins. That's pretty damn good.

Has Joe Theismann ever received a vote from the HOF committee?

Short answer: No. Gibbs was a great coach and deserving of HOF accolades, but he is not the greatest ever. Yes, he won with 3 different QBs and that is a mark of a great coach, but the QB position in his era was not as important as it is today. His teams generally won with strong defenses and running games, and a balance between the run and the pass.

Idk. He didn't play long enough to get the "compiler" numbers that Eli did which will probably put Eli in .. in addition to his SB success. If Theismann had been a starter for 15 years or so instead of 10 he'd probably be in. But he wasn't one of the elites of his era.

In the 1983 that team scored 541 points which was a record for over 15 years.

They ran essentially an offense never tried before. Double TE (H back) offense.

Really caused problems.

Maybe not an elite of his era, but definitely an elite for 3-4 years (82-85) in the latter half of his career. In '83 alone he won NFL MVP, NFL OPOY, 1st Team All-Pro, and Pro-bowl. I'd be surprised if he never received any votes.

He is one of those "what if" stories. Maybe not, because the average QB career back then was around 12-14 years. It was in Theismann's 12th year that he suffered that brutal leg injury from Lawrence Taylor. He had maybe 1-2 more years left in him.

You're right, he had a couple of very good seasons. But even then nobody was comparing him to Montana, Marino, Fouts.. He also played in Canada for his first 3 seasons and then was behind Kilmer for a couple more. But he didn't turn into Steve Young when he finally got his shot. Hall of the very good perhaps.

Gibbs greatest gift was knowing where to put people to get their greatest potential. Coaches, players whatever. He was a true leader.
After he put his mark on football, he went over to Nascar started from scratch & now owns one of the top organizations in the sport.
All he does is succeed. He does that by knowing people & where to put them.

Thank god the skins werent smart enough to make him their GM.

He is a great coach … Those old Redskins teams were old school football at it’s finest … One of my favorite NFC title games was the Skins vs Minny back in the late 80’s, that game was unbelievable, defensive war and how football is suppose to be….

That’s a good point, QB’s are more vital in todays game being such a passing league now with the defensive rules favoring the offense so much … DB is the hardest position in football… Still dam impressive though to win it all with 3 different QB’s, I wasn’t even aware he did that …

Great HC first stint. Second? Not so much.

That kind of happens when a clueless owner gets involved in football decisions vs an owner that let the football people run the football operations. Talking football with Snyder to Gibbs must've been like a heart surgeon talking to a 2nd grader about open heart surgery.

Best Coach of Football? For the Redskins yes, certainly elite within the NFL, winning 3 SBs with 3 different QBs and 3 different RBs. Doubt that will be repeated.

Best Coach and a leader of men - id argue his track record with Nascar as well as NFL places him in pretty rarefied air

id argue finding talent was not his greatest strength. he was best when Beatherd did that.

Understanding and placing people in a position to succeed was his greatest gift, as you've mentioned
