is hunter ready to backup gore?

Should we sign a Veteran rb to backup gore?? Hunter did show this preseason he could carry the load as the backup but he still is a rookie and if gore goes down with a injury...Are you guys confident with hunter being the starter??

I'm not worried about it right now. Good running backs usually pick things up quickly.

Not really worried about a VET being needed at this point. Hunter seems fine and Dixon should be ok.

Our lite version of Thunder & Lightning in the backfield backing up Gore should be enough for now.

Rumors are Chester Taylor might be traded/released. He has been a solid vet RB for some time. But im good with giving hunter and dixon the carries. Actually i think the Cardinals might trade/sign a guy like Taylor since they just lost there rookie back(names escaping me right now)for the year.

Ryan Williams is the AZ rookie that's out.

Taylor would be the first guy I would name had we suffer an injury to our RB platoon as well.

His pass pro needs work but I'm fine with what we have now and it's unlikely Hunter will be put in many situations he'll need to block for the QB and if Gore does go down Dixon should be fine and we could always bring in a vet if need be.

Hunter looked weak on pass blocking situations in the Texans game so that's the one glaring hold up for him - picking up on blitzes. Other than that, I would imagine Hunter should back up Gore with Dixon being 3rd string with all of that East - West dancing he does instead of just hitting the hole on the dime.

I would definately swap out Dixon for Chester Taylor. That is a huge upgrade IMO.

I think he will do well as a backup to Gore. Good change of pace guy, still needs to work on that blitz pickup though.

Hunter couldnt be an every down back if Gore went down. At least not yet. But I love having him as a back-up. He gives the 49ers that homerun threat.

Hunter looks like he has the potential, he just has to learn all the blitz pickups and prove that he can do it. Hunter is elusive like MDJ or Ray Rice. Dixon goes east-west too much and is caught easily.
