Yep. The Angels will be paying Trout $33MM for his two FA years that they bought, and that was with the extension discount.
That's probably a good move for Trout And the Angels. They get him in his prime 27 and 28 years, and at age 28 there will still be some team dumb or rich enough to offer him 10 years and a gazillion dollars (possibly even the Angels).

It was a great fucking move for Trout. I seriously don't see how you could turn down $144MM of guaranteed cash and eliminate a shit load of risk.

It was a little risky for the Angles, but ultimately, I agree with you, it was probably a good move for them.

So..yeah anyhow.....I still see the day with MLB uniforms covered in various ads unfortunately in the not too distant future.

Meh. You can say that about pretty much anything with the same level of possibility.

Yesterday, Bryce Harper informed the Washington Nationals that he wants a minimum 10 year, $400M contract when this contract is up in 2018. Should the Nats step up and give him an extension or a new contract for less than $40M a year? Where does it end? When does a league finally say 'NO". Players can't win games on their own, they need 8 other guys doing their job to be successful.

Is any player really worth $25,000 a game?

The Nationals would gladly pay him $25,000 per game.

Of course. Trout can't guarantee any play off win. But he is MVP

I like this Idea. I too would like to formally inform the Nationals that I would like the same contract as Harper does...

Inflated value for inconsistent production

There's no denying Harper's immense talent and his unlimited potential, but does his production on the field warrant the type of money he is demanding? Not even close.

Harper has had ONE great year with 4 above average years in his 5 year career.

When Arod signed his first big contract he also had 5 years as a starter under his belt. In those 5 years, he had 3 seasons over 40 hrs, 4 seasons hitting over .300, 1 batting title, and a 40-40 year

First off, Harper is a self-important pr*ck and I can't imagine the clubhouse issues he causes but I would not want his attitude issues around my team. His talent is undeniable but his ego is as well.

That said, I would love to watch someone else pay him that kind of money....he might implode. I'd pay to see that.

He's not worth the money because his contact isn't consistent year to year. He should not get paid as much as Trout.

So you wouldn't take Harper at a team-friendly contract?

He has 2 years left on his contract. They can tell him to pound sand.

But announcing that now could work against him, especially if his numbers decline.

I don't think he'll get 400 million, but probably somewhere between 250-300 million. And the team that signs him will eventually regret it .

No, but Stanton got his money and that set the "market" for Harper and company. He sadly will get it imo

No.. lol. He plays OF... RF at that, probably one of the most least important positions and had ONE GREAT season. Before I pay him ANYTHING like that he better be putting up the next TWO seasons at .300+ and 40 homers.

Trout plays CF.
Bryant plays basically everywhere, but 3B mostly.
Seagar plays SS.
Betts plays RF, granted...

All three of those are already INSANELY more valuable position wise and as of now are better batters than Harper.

But someone will overpay of course. It just happens.
