Can't wait to get this season going! I'm always nervous to play UNI, but bring it. Game on BTN so that's all good. Should be a blowout, but I'm not holding my breath. I say Hawks win 31-16 in a game that's close at the half.

This game will really tell us a lot about this team. I know Iowa is traditionally a slow starter and seems to play much better later in the year so let's hope that KF actually has his troops ready this year and really pummels UNI.

The offensive average points per game under KF: 25.49

The defensive average points per game under KF: 20.3

Iowa: 27
UNI: 18

(I'm hoping for a shutout by Iowa 63+ to zero though)

Given that it's UNI, KF wants to get the win without sustaining any injuries -- for both teams -- so I think it will be a low scoring game by KF and the Hawks.

key is going to be to hold that running back to 100 or less, pretty much the best RB in the state, too bad his grades weren't better coming out of high school

David Johnson, he's from Clinton, my hometown...1600+ yards last year over 1200 in rushing, stop him and likely you stop UNI

I know David Johnson. KF wanted DJ to walk-on at Iowa. The family is very poor and had no way to pay the tuition. I sure wish we had him. I too think he's the best RB in the state!!

If I remember correctly, UNI had North Dakota St beat until DJ went down last year.

My brother's memory therapist has a son that is a kicker for UNI. There really is 2 that has a chance at kicking. She said they are pretty even and the older is getting the start, but he better not mess up.

With the 1st quarter nearly over...not much new from the Hawks.

- QB sneak stuffed on 4th and 1...with power RBs behind
- 3rd and 15...and the defense gives up 22 yards
- 1-2 yard pass completions on offense

It is clear that Iowa's WRs can't get open down field. Iowa's passing game is nothing but "dink-and-dunk".

OC - Davis doesn't have the skill set required at the skill positions to run his offense.

It is game one and under KF, Iowa generally gets better as the season goes on. UNI is up and ready. Let's hope UNI stops passing the ball to David Johnson - the best player on the field today!

After the 3rd qtr, Iowa's top RBs have totaled: 62 yards on 22 carries with 2 TDs
- Bullock: 3-10
- Canzeri: 7-22
- Daniels: 6-16 (1)
- Weisman: 6-14 (1)

Now is UNI that good on defense, or was Iowa supposed to have a strong O-Line?

It is frustrating, what did I say earlier this week though, stop Johnson and you win...good thing they have a million penalties

I'm glad the win is in the book. But, clearly, this team has a lot of work to do.

Looking ahead:

- Ball St is winning against Colgate in first half
- Iowa St lost to NDST 34-14
- Pitt wins 62-0 against Delaware

I disagree...there were plenty of wide receivers open the problem is Jake doesn't know how to look downfield unless that's the number one option.

Hard to say if it's the coaching, Jake or the WRs. I tried to watch replays on all of Jakes check-downs and I didn't see many open receivers. But the times when Jake threw the ball down the field good things happened - be it catches or defensive penalties. Lesson?

THROW THE DAMN BALL DOWN THE FIELD AND QUIT THE 2 YARD OUT PATTERNS!

It seemed there were guys open, but when you watch some of the other games that were on, that made it more frustrating, dump passes to the RB is ok, but you gotta take a shot now and then, just overthrow it if you can't make it or throw it out of bounds. You can't tell me though with Powell and Parker and Willies that we can't get a guy downfield, cause we can, just got to be able to hit them. Safe is good til it isn't...just looked a bit lost at times and was frustrated our D line didn't get in there more. Our LB play needs to be better...not worried about Ball State or Iowa State, maybe I should be, but we need to improve a bit to beat Pitt...and I take their win with a grain of salt too, Delaware is not Alabama by any means.

Was super disappointed in Wisconsin...12-2 for B10 week 1
