Cute stadium. First time I've seen it almost full.

Don't they normally fill that stadium for games? If not...why?
What the fook else is there to do in Ames on a Saturday afternoon that would keep folks from coming to the games?

Seriously, what the hell else is there to do in Ames? Hell, they probably don't even have dying kids to wave at.

ISU was 28th nationally in attendance last year. They draw more fans than Oregon, AZ & AZ St, UCLA and CU, Okie St & K-state, Mizzou and Minny just to name a few.

Jack Trice Stadium seats 61,500

Iowa State averaged 57,931 fans in 2017
Iowa 66,337

Iowa State had the 6th largest increase by fans in 2017, +5374, that is for schools that are NOT sold out all the time. Noy surprising, Purdue won that category.

I can tell you from experience, the fanbase is ambivalent in Ames. Half the people in Ames don't even know there is a game going on. The students don't really care. Ames is a small city, if it were not for the college, there would be nothing there. The only Des Moines people that drive up to it are the hard cores, it is not an event like people from Omaha flocking to Lincoln. Not to mention, Iowa is the sports school of choice for most of Iowa.

Iowa City has Cedar Rapids, the Quad Cities, and eastern iowa all to themselves. Des Moines is a two hour drive. Many Des Moiners go to Iowa City over Ames for football games. Even though Ames is basically a 30 minute drive.
