Funny how LeBron is slurped as a DPOY caliber player, yet he's allowing opponent's to shoot a staggering 59% at the rim... talk about over-rated, eh?

WoW... !!

Has anyone figured out how to sort those player tracking stats based on position? There must be a way but I feel like I'm missing something really obvious

Actually...they kinda do. Those stats are derived from the SportsVU player tracking system, a camera system that tracks individual player movements during the game and through use of complex algorithms (and black magic) turns it into a meaningful stat used for evaluation.

"kinda do" don't cut it. There is no way a machine or program can factor in intimidation. Just can't be done. When Hibbert is standing near the rim it is going to affect any and all players that are thinking about approaching the rim and that's that. No program or algorithm can figure that into a calculation.

Human emotions and instincts cannot be properly factored in. Just a fact.

Just cause somebody's intimidated doesn't mean they won't try to score at the rim

Although human emotions and instincts can not be factored in whether or not they change their actions when a certain player is here, there or in the building can be determined quite simply. It was actually shown a lot in the ECF last year.

Compare the difference in percentages of actions* of given player when Hibbert is on the floor or in a certain spot on the floor. Both can be shown using these computers.

You could even more easily make it to show the team tendencies when Hibbert is either in the paint, with in 3 feet of the rim or even on the court.

*Such as whether the player drives to the basket, drives and kicks or settles for a jump shot etc. Every action taken by the player can be tracked.

^He's right. While the cameras don't know for certain a player is feeling intimidation, the camera does see that for example, less shots are taken within 10 feet of the rim if Hibbert is in the game as opposed to when he's not. So its measuring directly how Hibbert's presence is influencing the game. Or to put it another way, the tangible result of an emotion, intimidation.

It's like rating teams using a BCS-like system. It can't be done consistently or accurately.
