Is Doug Martin done for the year or what?

Courtesy or Rotoworld:
(10/22 @ 6:22pm) Speaking Tuesday, Doug Martin said his shoulder injury is "not necessarily season ending," and that his "range of motion has improved." It's unclear if Martin is waiting for a second opinion, or if the team has simply decided to see how he responds to rest and rehab. Either way, he's not going to play Thursday, and is doubtful, at best, for Week 9.

(10/22 @ 4:35pm) Doug Martin (shoulder) isn't practicing ahead of Thursday's game. Martin isn't going to play Thursday, or perhaps the rest of the season. The team appears to be awaiting the results of a second opinion before announcing his status

If I'm a Martin owner, he's on my team until he's officially on IR.
If I'm not, you couldn't pay me to trade my 2nd to last WW pick for him. He's done.

What would be the point of bringing him back anyway? I own him in my keeper so I'm not dropping him but why not just shut him down and not risk a career threatening injury? The dude still has burst but has been facing 8-9 man fronts and hasn't had much room to run (at least from what I've seen). Fantasy disappointment: yes. Fantasy lost cause: Don't think so...........next year. Shit, the play he got hurt on was almost a spectacular catch on a wheel route.......

Doug Martin insists he's not out for the season with his shoulder injury.
Analysis: "No," he said when asked if the injury might end his second NFL campaign. "Right now, I'm doing treatment on it with the trainers and taking it day by day and seeing how it feels." Torn labrums are tricky injuries because the best course of action isn't always definitive like it would be with a torn ACL or broken bone. Martin is trying a rest-and-rehab regimen before making any decisions on surgery. "It's definitely gotten better," he said. "And my range of motion has increased day to day." Martin's left arm remains in a sling and the Bucs remain tight-lipped. For now, we're just considering him out indefinitely.

At 0-6, and virtually no hope of climbing back into it, especially during the time he'll be out, I don't see why they'd even consider it unless he's absolutely %100. this guy is supposed to be their RB for a decade, no point in screwing around with that just to try and save face on a lost season.

RE: Dougie Martin

I'm on the verge of dumping him.
He's got 71 points (PPR league) or 11.8 points per game.
Pros: With a raw QB, Tampa may rely more on the run game to take some pressure off of Glennon.
Cons: Too many. Tampa probably won't be winning many games. At some point in each game they'll probably abandon the run so as to pass. And even if Martin can "play" I doubt that a shoulder injury will make him improve on his 11.8 fantasy points per game. And who wants to play "starter roulette" as it gets closer to the fantasy playoffs?

Agree?

Me and my rag tag bunch of RB's would probably snatch him up real quick. . but I agree with your points

That 11.8 is #18 among RBs... not what anybody drafted him for, but there won't be much better than that lying around.

True. But he was 11.8. He's already missed a week. Maybe a few more. Then you start him when he's "probable" and hope he lasts at least a half. If he gets you 6 points is that something to be excited about? Or maybe he'll be listed as day-to-day or the annoying "game-time decision." Then Schiano gets canned and the Bucs brass decides to put Martin and their outlook for 2014 on season-ending IR.

I have enough "healthy" players that give me those kind of headaches.

Well, the waiver-wire guys are on the order of Ogbannaya or outright handcuffs. If you drop him, who are you dropping him for? Until he's ruled out, he's rosterable, with a higher ceiling than most.

Glad I don't have him though.

Someone please inform me if I'm mistaken. . but isn't this the same injury that screwed Gates out of two years or so? I mean he played, but he hadn't been the same since. ..

I believe you're right Treff. Plantar fasciitis is bad enough, but "partially" torn would have to be worse. Could be trouble.
