Might be too soon for Mangino to be a big enough impact, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the Clones beat Iowa.

There's already good coaching under Rhoades, then add in the rivalry aspect.

Misunderstood the first post. I agree there is some serious coaching in Ames

How about that Big Ten West?

You've got okay teams like Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Iowa
then 40 feet of shit
then Minnesota, Purdue, Illinois, and Northwestern.

It's gonna be one of those three teams playing in the B1G championship every year for a long time. Good for Wisconsin I guess. Now if we can find a quarterback to complement everything else...

Dude you never know. Every once in a while the first 3 you mentioned can have off years and then a team like Purdue comes out of nowhere and represents the the west with an 8-4 record because of tie breakers.

Not so fast in your separation there. Nebraska lost to Minnesota by double digits last season and had to beat Northwestern on a Hail Mary.

ISU has been a thorn in Iowas side for about 15 years but ISU wont be any damn good this yeqar and the game is in IC so Id be surprised to see the game be semi close. The only real OOC game Im worried about is at Pitt. First road game and Pitt should be OK. If the Hawks get past that one they should not really have any issues for some time. Their next 6 games are putrid.

Probably Wisconsin.

I don't see a 11-1 BCS team being ranked #18 though.

Maybe 13th at the worst.

Man the schedule is terrible but I cant see any BCS conference team going 11-1 and being ranked 18th. They may not even be the 18th best team in the country at 11-1 but I guarantee they would be ranked higher than that. I cant even remeber the last time a BCS league had a team go 11-1 and wasnt ranked in the top 10... That would be interesting to look up though.

Northern Illinois had a HORRENDOUS SoS and was ranked #15 at 11-1 in the MAC.

So in the last 17 years there is one instance of an 11-1 BCS league team being 11-1 or better and being ranked as low as 18th. Ironically this incident occurred last year with an 11-1 Louisville being ranked 18th on the nose. That said the worst any 11-1 oir better B10 team has been ranked in that same time span is 2010 MSU being ranked 8th. All that said this years Iowa schedule is certainly no better than last years Louisville so anything is possible I guess.

Computer models do not care about records. Simply means it believes Iowa is the 18th best team in the country. Simply 17 others would have a better record with Iowa's schedule

Oh I know. I was looking at BCS rankings when I went back so they would have incorporated everything. Im SURE there are instances of teams being11-1 and ranked lower in computer models. I was speaking to the actual rankings though. People see 11-1 and B10 and that has never and probably will never equate to a ranking of 18th. ( even if the SOS is horrible )

That ranking sounds a little low for an 11-1 team doesn't it??

Weak schedule and the only decent team they play against they lose to. That is aside from Nebraska, who is expected to lose 4 games.

I also have Alabama going 12-0 and only ranked #5 because of weak schedule.

That's just how I rank it. Voters will probably rank them higher, but I'd argue it wasn't deserved unless some strength is gained during the season.

I'm not sure if people would be surprised to see ASU back around top 15ish and 10-2 or not. I suspect that's where they wind up on the strength of a lighter start to the season and about a month for the largely new defense to get its shit together, then going into the meat with bye weeks before UCLA and Stanford home games.

I kind of think Utah might be good this year. Depends if they've finally got a QB they can keep healthy. Their defense has seemed pretty salty the last few years, but their offense is so god awful nobody ever really notices.
