I'm with ya. This guy might just be crazy enough to give us the Crown Jewels for the 5th pick.

I will contain my enthusiasm until that particular move actually happens. LOL

Probably makes sense. Realistically, they are going to have to trade with someone ahead of us if they want to guarantee Mariota.

I try to avoid that place but I may need to venture over to the Eagles board to see why they would be happy with this move. Clearly a cap trade, they could not agree on a long term deal that McCoy was seeking.

So I take it I am the only one here who thinks the Eagles made a smart move to trade a RB who will be 27 at the start of the season for a young and talented potential defensive leader in Alonso???

This is either going to be very good or very bad. No in-between.

Still say this screams of Chip showing who is boss once again. McCoy had no guaranteed money in his deal. It makes little sense to deal him for a guy coming off injury and leave yourself with a question mark in what was a position of strength.

When a player gets traded, there's no bonus pro-rate with that player. There could be some guaranteed money in terms of base salary or things like roster bonuses, however.

Correction, there is no bonus pro rate for the new team. But if the old team still had bonus to account for it comes due right away.

This is why trading Garcon would be a wash. If we trade him we still take a $4.4 million hit against the cap and would end up spending the other $5 million of his $9.5 million cap hit right now to replace him.

That's very true. His deal was very cap-friendly to the team. And with the space they created by cutting people like Trent Cole, they could've easily have kept him. This is all about Emperor Chippius Kellius and his my-way-or-the-highway diktat. It started with Desean. It then continued with his big victory in a power struggle with Howie Roseman. And he's now parlayed that into getting rid of Shady and a bunch of veterans in the past few days. This is nothing short of Caesar ousting Pompey and the bloodletting that followed.

Hopefully, this will result in him trading the house with us for Mariota.

Fair point. That's actually what I meant though. The new team inherits no bonus pro-rate. And even if they did, McCoy's pro-rate was tiny: $3.4M for this year and in 2016. Which makes cutting him (and/or failing to convert non-guaranteed base salary) is a huge question mark.
